I returned to Thailand on the 14th of December.

I left on the 18th. I flew to Singapore and stayed there until the 27th and returned to Thailand. 

     My re entry visa expires on the 25th of January.  Am I eligible for an additional 30 day extension without leaving again?….

Yes if you entered visa exempt on the 27th December which I'm assuming you did. You can apply for a 30 days extention of stay.

If you came to Thailand on visa excempt, that ended when you left Thailand.

Obviously the original entry is ended. Returned to Thailand on the 27th December, on what visa/visa exempt we dont know.

we need to know for what kind of stay permit you bought that re-entry permit. You do not hold anything such like a "re-entry visa". You actually have no visa at all. You only got a stay permit for which you bought that re-entry permit. It will expire at the same date than the stay permit you received when you entered Thailand
