Hello. Request for advice please; if I arrive with a return flight dated for 6 months after arrival, will I be admitted without any issues? My plan is not to stay in thailand for 6 months, but I would like to not have to plan my other flights in advance. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about being admitted to Thailand with a return flight scheduled for six months after arrival, while intending to stay for a shorter period. Comments suggest checking with the airline regarding their policies on onward travel, as travelers may need to show proof of departure within a specific time frame if traveling without a visa. There are also suggestions to purchase a refundable onward ticket to comply with potential airline requirements.

No, that is not going to be accepted. If you get checked that is.

I hope you don't mind a further query; if I have the return (LHR - BKK) with return dated for 6 months after arrival, but I have a ticket to go to Malaysia for 4 weeks, which is dated for 2 months after initial arrival.....will that be a problem? (I'm really sorry, I hope this question makes sense!!) Thank you in advance. Tbh I feel very embarrassed that I am having to ask so many questions, it seems so complicated!! 😅

no that makes perfect sense, this is a good question.

The ticket to Malaysia will be accepted if two months is not two full months but falls within 60 days after arrival.

does this really work?

yes it does as it's a booking for a ticket pending payment

I've used it before and shown it to immigration. Not this specific company, there are many of them that offer the same thing.

Buy an onward one way good ticket to a neighbouring country then cancel and get refund. Your airline may not allow you to board as you will only be given 60 days visa exempt on arrival

OK, thank you very much.

you can get a dummy ticket on line for $12-00 print and show it to checkin if needed - Google the site there’s a couple

You need to ask your airline. If you're flying without a visa, they may require you to show proof that you are leaving Thailand within 60 days or they will not let you board your flight.

Flew back with EK from Manchester last week, and long discussion about my plans, as I was returning on and EVisa (retirement) and they wanted to understand why I don’t have a return flight…..when I explained that I have lived here for 6 years and returning to get a new retirement O visa they accepted it, but not sure she was convinced……

you keep saying this. Daily I think. But Brandon, no airline will tell anyone that a return flight six months out is ok. Independent of how strictly they enforce. She can save herself the time to call them.

There are plenty of people that have come back and said "I talked to my airline and they said nothing is required." It's also well known that Thai Air doesn't require proof of onward travel.

if you call Emirates in the UK now and ask them this, and their operator erroneously replies that it will not be asked, it also means nothing. They may still ask, and then you can't refer to a wrong answer from a operator in his first working week.

@Brandon ***********
No airline is telling people that proof of onward travel is not required. If they do, it's just a phone operator making a mistake. All airlines are required to check it, as you know, and phone operators are not informing on enforcement intensity. They only inform on actual rules, which are are the same for all airlines.

Thai may be known to not enforce but they too will not admit this by phone.

OK, thank you for the information.

which airline would ask or is there an airline that insist ???

@Craig *********
I was asked on JAL recently. I have a retirement visa, so I was cool. The airlines can stop you from boarding.

all of them are supposed to check. Some do it more strictly than others, but all will do it at least sometimes.

But calling them upfront and asking if they will is just pointless, no airline will tell you that you can get away with a ticket six months away on the phone.

depends if there is a flag in their system for the destination country in question. They normally have to clear the flag by saying they have asked, or they cannot proceed to next stage of checkin
