Will applying for a Thai visa mid-November with funds deposited after September create issues?

Thanks in advance for your help 🙌

*$ amounts are in AUD

Since 26th September I have had the required $21k + in the account.

We are due to fly out on the 31st of December to BKK.

If I apply for the Visa half way through November, will I have an issue as the money has only been in there since 26th sep. from what I am reading it needs to be in there for a total of 3 months. This would take me to 26th December (right in the middle of holiday time) and not enough time to process the visa.

My question is if I provide them with September, October and November bank statements, does this pose an issue as the majority of the money only went in late September.

My daughter will be flying on an ED student visa as she will be attending international school and already enrolled and her visa is getting sorted by the school.

Any insights would be very helpful. Thank you
Answer summary
The user is concerned about applying for a Thai visa (DTV) in mid-November while only having the required funds in their bank account since September 26. They question if providing bank statements for September, October, and November, given that the funds are not seasoned for the full three months, will cause issues in the application process. Comments indicate that Australian embassies are strict about the seasoning of funds, noting potential problems due to timing and advising that waiting until December could also cause delays because of holiday closures. Potential alternatives for applying from other consulates that may have different requirements are suggested.

With $21k AUD since 26 Sept and applying mid Nov - yes, you will have an issue if you apply from Australia.

*Why:*

Australian embassies (Canberra, Sydney) have been strictest on seasoning. They want 3 months statements where the _closing balance_ each month is over 500k THB ~ $21.5k AUD, and they look at daily balance. If your September statement shows $2k on 1st Sept then $21k on 26th Sept, they will count September as NOT meeting 3 months.

If you apply mid Nov, you have:

- September - partial, fails

- October - pass 1

- November - statement not even closed yet, so you only have 1 full month that counts

Sydney has been sending auto request: "Provide 3 months bank statements showing balance of at least 500k THB maintained throughout". That resets your clock and pushes you into December anyway, and you lose time.

*Your timeline problem:*

If you wait till 26 Dec to have 3 full months (Oct, Nov, Dec), that's Christmas shutdown + 10-15 business days processing at Canberra = you will not get it by 31 Dec.

*Best options for you:*

1. *Apply earlier but from a different consulate that allows travel while waiting* - e.g. Jakarta, HCMC, Hanoi. Many families in your exact position fly to BKK on 31 Dec on a 60 day visa exemption (now 30 days from Sept 15), then apply for DTV from a nearby country in January while daughter starts school on ED. Jakarta allows you to show last 3 months but cares more about final balance + source of funds letter. If you show transfer from your other savings account on 26 Sept, Jakarta often accepts.

You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.

What DTV are you applying for?

The 3 months is generally needed, I cant see Aus being the embassy to make the exemption.

You could apply for a tourist visa (longer than the one given on exemption), and then potentially get a Guardian Visa in country (dependant on age of your daughter).

If applying for Guardian in country I believe you need to have been in Thailand for 45 days (and your child needs an ED visa, which if thats happening in country they need to be in the country 30 days before applying, then it takes about 3 weeks of processing in Chiang Mai).

For initial Guardian application in Thailand you generally need 20k AuD in a thai bank account for 30 days, you can apparently use your childs ED visa to open a bank account.

I believe you also need their birth certificate notarised by a thai embassy (if you can do that in Aus, otherwise Bangkok).

I wouldn't be applying for the DTV without the seasoned funds personally.
