Hello, I went to the department of transportation today in Bangkok to renew my driver's licence. I had my passport with me and tm 30 from imigration. However, I was told to go back to the immigration and get a new form. I also, asked them about how long my new driver's license is gonna be good for since I don't have a visa and I am on covid extension.

They said they don't know how long. My question is which imigration I should go to in Bangkok and is the driver's license gonna be good for 2 or 5 years?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user visited a department of transportation in Bangkok to renew their driver's license but was told to return to immigration for a new form. They inquired about the license validity since they are currently on a COVID extension without a visa. Comments suggest that without a long-term visa, the driver's license will likely only be valid for two years, necessitating a residence certificate from the local immigration office to obtain a longer validity.

If you don't have a WP, you need a residence certificate from your local immigration office. Your initial driving license will be valid 2 years.

There are 2 imigration offices in Bkk, I used one for extension, the other one for tm 30. I'm not sure which one I should visit.

use the Chaeng Wattana office. You want a residency certificate, not a TM30. They will mail it to you. You also need your medical certificate, that any of the motorcycle taxi drivers at the DLT can take you to get. Also, do not provide them with any more information than they ask for, like don't point out to them your visa extension situation.

I tried to renew my license last year and was only able to get another 2 year temporary license because they said I needed to be on a long term visa to be able to switch to a 5 year one. I was on a tourist visa at the time. (Koh Samui Transport office)
