I probably already know the answer but Im going to ask anyways. Im nowhere near retirement age but have reoccurring income from the US government and a full time job. Are there any visa options aside from a short term tourist visa without moving 500k baht to a bank account for the DTV?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses visa options in Thailand for individuals who are not yet retirement age but have recurring income from the US and are considering living or working remotely in Thailand. The primary recommendation is the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV), specifically highlighting that even though it requires having 500,000 baht in a bank account, it can be held outside of Thailand. Other alternatives mentioned include the LTR Work From Thailand Professional visa and a 3-entry tourist visa that could provide a longer stay with extensions. There are also mentions of banking challenges and differing interpretations of DTV as a tourist visa.

Yes, a simple 3 entry 90 day tourist visa can secure you 180 days with extensions.

No need to transfer 500,000 baht onto a Thai bank account - equivalent amount held for certain period in the local bank account is fine.

Try Cambodia. It's a lot more welcoming.

Petr S. Van Valkenburg you’re so dumb, hardly. DTV had to leave Thailand every 180 days - I haven’t left for 3 years. There are also plenty of perks. Only a scam if you’re broke and can’t afford it 🥳🤡 DTV can’t even open a bank account. Retirement visa can’t work remotely. Dtv has to keep all documents and programs up to date, show 500k baht possibly on any entry and be scrutinized. My visa is as hassle free as it gets. 🤷‍♂️

Assuming you would be working your full time job remotely there are only 2 visa options that allow you to legally do so. The DTV based on Workation and the LTR Work From Thailand Professional visa. There is no need to put money in a Thai bank for the DTV visa, in fact you won't be able to open a Thai bank account, but you do need the 500k baht (or equivalent) in a bank account somewhere

Can you clarify around opening a bank account with DTV ? My understanding is a number of banks won’t open as DTV is considered a tourist visa

DTV is indeed a tourist visa and you can no longer open a bank account on tourist visa

it doesn't matter where your bank account is it must have the required funds in it. Applying in the US you need $17k USD for example
