TLDR : Answer Summary

Various suggestions are highlighted in the comments, including the DTV visa option for families and the need to gather more information regarding nationality and purpose of visit before choosing a visa type.

Nobody can tell you that without a lot more information. Nationality, ages of all, purpose of visit and so on. Start by researching the appropriate visa options on the Thai evisa website

British, ages 13,11,38 and 35 coming for a year to see if we could live abroad permanently and to press the reset button, plan is to have the time and space to create our own self employed platforms

DTV for sure but you need to show about 500,000 baht savings (£12k roughly) for 3 months in your personal account. You can get the familyin as dependants.

you can't be self employed and working inside Thailand. If you mean you will be working remotely from Thailand then the DTV is really your only option but you can't work for any Thai entities or clients that are in Thailand. At your ages your options are limited visa wise for a stay of 1 year, even if you are not working the DTV is still probably your best option by signing up to one of the soft power activities with an approved provider (Muay Thai, Thai cooking or for medical treatment)

You dont say if you will work or what you are coming for. You need to check the thai visa site. To see what you qualify for. Chances are you wont be coming.

The easiest for a year is the DTV for a family. Unless you are putting kids in school and getting guardian visa through them but that will be expensive.
