seeing this post is like a deja vu - so many US Americans want to make the move to Thailand, but nobody ever seems to take the effort to reasearch about the need for the proper visa. They travel to Thailand, and after 60 (or 90) days they find out they are not allowed to stay in the country much longer

Nongnuch Kamdee yes true. American average IQ is the lowest in the world and their intelligence level is also the lowest in the world. Education level is tops worst in the world. So, most of them never searched or learned or try to learn new things. they are mostly primitive in wild life.

Mitzi Dobbs oh dear! Ok, I will tell you what my friend told me about 13 years ago. Come and visit, travel around for several months to see if you like the climate and people and find a place you gel with. It’s not for everyone. Right now the heat is really insane and that will stick around for roughly another month or two. Then it starts raining most every day for the next 4-5 months. I used to live in Seattle where it rains for 4-6 months a year and after living in Bangkok for over a decade I can testify that BKK has just as many gray days, only without the cold or snow. But I wish you great fortune and just keep reminding yourself to remain patient , don’t demand anything you might expect back in the States, never raise your voice or get angry with the locals, and never cause someone to lose face, because the effect and reaction can be bad. And if you are expecting a country with no racism, you may be disappointed a bit. Great luck!

Best of luck sis, I have been here for almost 2 years loving it. Yes the visas are the real important parts, depending on which one you choose you may need to apply before you leave. Pleases do a deep dive online about the different Thai visas based on age, showing proof of how much money you will be making or have in your bank for at least 3 months. There are other visas ofcourse but they all take time, some people hire an agent as well, its certainly doable. Also stay in the know, Thai news outlets for sure. Years ago my first time visiting Thailand it was 90 days on arrival its currently 60 days and soon to be 30 days, also possible mandatory health insurance for all visitors and Expats, so welcome, happy for you, but please go online do your research at the Thai immigration websites and be ready for culture change its a great place for sure but like anything it comes with some challenges and adjustments as well. When I see posts like this, I'm reminded of some advice I once saw. . . bring half the clothing that you planning on packing - and twice the amt of cash. Good luck with your journey - my wife and I left the US a little over a year ago and it was the best decision we could have made.
