What should I do if I need a signed and stamped contract for my visa application as an independent contractor in Thailand?

Hi Everyone!

I finally received a request for an additional document--my contract signed & stamped. The copy of the contract I sent them does have a stamp, but not signed by the company itself, only my electronic signature. The company (where I'm considered an independent contractor) does not do this. Has anyone been in this situation? How did you handle it?

This group has been so helpful so far! Thank you πŸ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has received a request from an embassy for a signed and stamped copy of a contract as part of their visa application process. They are concerned because their company (where they are an independent contractor) does not provide such documentation, leading to uncertainty on how to proceed. Commenters suggest writing a cover letter from the company certifying their contractor status, advising caution in how to handle the request to avoid complications with the embassy.

Which embassy? And where is your company located.

Stamps are used often in Asia for legal documents, so naturally this is what they would ask for.

dude, don't play with fire. Just do the things as they asked you without getting in trouble. There are people who got black listed and got their app denied many times cuz of that. Talk to your boss and explain the embassy's needs BUT don't sign it yourself. that's the easiest way to get in trouble

The contract is already stamped by yhe company, but has no actual signatures because it's electronic. I can sign my side, of couse, but I don't have a "boss" to sign anything. It's a big online teaching company that hires thousands of teachers as independent contractors. I suppose I can just explain that when I resend the contract.

Anonymous participant since it's a big online teaching company with thousands of teachers (and surely some of them are here on dtv), I wouldn't do that. I believe your best call is to write a cover letter with what you stated above here, perhaps supported by emails or logs (you can send an email today to your company stating that you need that document, supporting by a screenshot of the mail of the embassy. If they don't give that to you, just take a screenshot and send it to the embassy). Don't think those guys at the embassy are stupid, they see dozens of cases every day. good luck

Thank you πŸ™ The company is VIPKID. I was hoping at least one other person who works for them would respond here! But alas, nope πŸ˜† I don't think anyone at the embassy is stupid. That is why I specifically asked this group who has been in this situation, and how they dealt with it. I'm not planning to do anything sketchy or illegal. I'm just not sure how to give them something that doesn't exist, and I cannot easily get (if at all). I did write them, but no reply. I will explain my situation better in the cover letter. And point out that the contract does have official stamps from the company.

Anonymous participant they don't work on saturday, u gonna wait few days at least

Literally just sign it by yourself on behalf of your company, no one will check and everyone does this as it's for bureucracy purpose only.

Anonymous participant I believe that's a very stupid advice that might lead u to big issues. Remember that u can still get called anytime for an interview and get asked to show all the original documents. Remember that u also tick a box claiming that all the documents you show are legit and authentic. I got called for interview and I got all my documents checked like I was at a police station. play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I wouldn't take the risk of ending blacklisted but u are free to go!πŸ₯°

Irene Allen if you're not forging documents and not fabricating any truth, you can work anywhere but your company doesn't for whatever reason provide specific paperwork to freelancers, there is zero possibility for any issue. You're not lying about anything and your papers are real, one formality signature in the grey area but all parties in agreement.

as I mentioned above, when the interviewer checked my documents she paid attention to every single details and she even checked that all the documents were stating exactly the same thing. OP got asked for a VERY specific thing cuz they obviously doubt there's something sketchy. Perhaps they already got similar cases and they just wanna check his reaction. I repeat, what you have done could possibly lead to rejection+ blacklist. It doesn't seem a good idea to me but you guys are adults so do whatever you want

Irene Allen Hi. There is nothing sketchy about anything I sent them. I am an independent contractor with VIPKID, a legitimate Chinese teaching platform I've taught with since 2016. They do not sign the contract (as in way a boss or an HR person would). I'm simply asking how others have dealt with this similar situation. I'm going to send a cover letter explaining the company better along with my contract again pointing out the stamps.
Arto ****************
Irene Allen so they specifically asked you "who made this signature?"

Irene Allen Hi, thanks for your input. Yes, ultimately, I agree. I've decided to send back the contract and point out the stamp already there, sign my signature above my electronic one, and explain further the nature of the company (why there is no "boss" or HR person to sign). And hope for the best πŸ™

Put yourself in their shoes, how can they believe you are legit when u just show a contract with your name on and no other part signs/stamps? If I were you I'd write a cover letter in name of my company stating that you are an independent contractor and that you guys have been cooperating for a certain amount of months/years. Something like to whom may concern,We blah blah blah company certify that anonymous participant has been our indipendent contractor since (date). Anonymous participant is allowed to work from remote (including Thailand). Regards, stamp of the company and sign. I suggest you to prepare it and bring it to the company just asking for a sign and a stamp
