What should I consider when reapplying for the Thailand DTV Workcation visa after a denial?

DTV Workcation DENIED despite providing requested documents considering reapplying from Indonesia. Any similar experiences?

I was recently denied a Thailand DTV (Workcation) visa and I'm trying to understand what may have gone wrong before reapplying. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I'm a Spanish citizen and initially applied through the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid.

For my original application I submitted:

* Passport

* Photo

* Bank evidence showing more than 500,000 THB equivalent

* Evidence of remote work/freelance activity

A few weeks later, the embassy requested additional documentation:

* Proof of education / academic qualifications

* Official bank statements for the last 3 months showing transactions and balance above 500,000 THB

* Professional history prior to the incorporation of my LLC

* Evidence of active business operations (client invoices, business profile, etc.)

* Income and tax certificates for the previous 3 months

* Documentation proving the legal incorporation of the LLC

I provided everything requested, including:

* University degrees (Sport Sciences and Nutrition)

* English CV

* Approximately 14-15 months of invoices

* Tax documentation

* Income records

* LLC registration documents

* LLC invoice(s)

* Bank statements

* Evidence of ongoing remote work activity

For context, I've been working remotely in the fitness industry since April 2025. I provide online fitness coaching services through a long-term relationship with an international company.

My income has been consistent for over a year.

My LLC was incorporated in February 2026, but my professional activity existed long before that. The LLC was created to better structure and manage international payments and business operations.

After approximately 7 weeks of processing, my application was denied.

The only explanation I received was:

"After evaluation, it has been determined that the application does not meet all internal criteria required for visa approval."

The embassy stated they do not provide detailed reasons for denials.

Since then, I've completely reorganized my documentation and prepared a much more detailed portfolio explaining:

* My professional history

* Timeline of activity since April 2025

* Academic qualifications

* Transition from freelancer to LLC structure

* Source of income

* Tax compliance

* Remote work activities

* Business continuity before and after LLC incorporation

I'm now considering reapplying through Indonesia. Or which embassy would you recommend me? I need the visa to be processed as soon as possible

Has anyone experienced a DTV rejection from one embassy and later been approved by another embassy or consulate?

Do you think the LLC being relatively new could have been a concern, despite having over a year of prior professional activity and invoicing?

Any experiences or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Summary so far
The user, a Spanish citizen, has shared their experience of having their Thailand DTV (Workcation) visa application denied despite providing extensive documentation including proof of remote work and financial stability. After receiving a vague denial notice citing failure to meet internal criteria, they are looking for insights from others who may have faced similar situations, specifically regarding reapplying at different embassies. Comments suggest considerations for documentation clarity, possible embassy locations for reapplication, and concerns related to the nature of work as a personal trainer potentially affecting visa approval.

Apply in your homecountry, where the Thai Embassy is used to evalute the type of documents you present from your homecountry.

It is foolish to go to the Thai embassy’s in Thailands neighbor countrys, since it is there all the non-serious people who want longtime holidays, go to get DTV.

Yeah, I asked The embassy and they have the right to not give reasons. That's sad, but it is what it is, good luck if you re-apply, let's try our best!

You should’ve passes flying colours except the profession you are in and the Risk of physical work in Thailand.

Do you think that specifying that my work is completely remote and showing screenshots of the service I provide and where my clients are based (all from Spain and South America) will help?

The thing that catched my attention is " I provide online fitness coaching services". Maybe it is not clear that your business doesn't allow thai income. remember that remote work is allowed as long as no thai clients exist. But maybe they extend that to not able to exist. I hope this helps.

Yeah, maybe I should specify outside of Thailand or only conducted in Spanish Language so they don't have to worry about me working with Thai people

Most likely cause is your profession. Very easy for a fitness trainer to set up shop locally and there are many doing that illegally.

You can roll the dice and hope you get through at another embassy or you can accept that you're not the type of worker Thailand in looking for for this visa

Could be the issues outlined by others or maybe they feel online coaching would be too easy for you to pick up local clients too so there is a concern for working illegally. I don't think anybody will really be able to answer your question without seeing everything that you submitted.

Anonymous participant it doesn't matter. There are tens of thousands of people with this visa. They don't have the resources to waterboard you and make you pinky promise you won't work illegally

They're looking at how easy it is for a person to work locally and assessing the risk

There are lots of foreigners working illegally as personal trainers all over SEA. It's probably one of the highest risk professions for them to approve because finding illegal work is so easy

You don't seem to have included a letter from your LLC stating that you have permission to work remotely from Thailand (specifically) and that you wouldn't work with any Thai entities or clients inside Thailand

@John *********
In this new application I will include a contract with my LLC and a Commercial Certification Letter with the company im working with, specifying I won't work with any Thai clients that should work?
John **********

Anonymous participant if you are applying via your LLC you should include a letter giving specific permission from that entity for you to work remotely from Thailand and stating that you won't work with any Thai entities or clients. It's OK for you, the owner of the LLC, to write the letter to you the individual applying for the visa

A new LLC is not an issue, Indonesia is taking longer to approve these days. Laos is a good option along with Manilla.

Talk to the gym and apply for the Non Immigrant B visa and work permit as personal trainer/coach.

as I guess that is the problem, working in fitness.

@Robert ******
exactly theres so many expat personal trainers finding local clients illegally in Thailand.

I would not be surprised if theres a discrimination against PTs applying for DTV and i don’t blame the government for this.

Even if they are only finding other expat clients locally its still illegal.

It’s a little unfair but they don’t have the resources to micromanage every case so it makes sense why some high risk groups be denied.

OP
So it wouldn't make any sense to reapply with a better portfolio from another country in my personal case? I remarked in it that I won't work with any client towards Thailand, they cannot know of course but I'm being honest, but it is sad if that's the case...

OMG, discrimination card is used.

Why people can not accept the decision of the Thai Government based on individual applications.

Avoid Indonesia...too many requests for added documents.

Suggest you apply with VIENTIANE Laos...or possibly Taipei.

Let's ask

I'm flying to Bangkok in a few days, I will set up there and then decide where to go to reapply. Which one of those are the fastest to get the Visa? I know we cannot control that, but I really wanna try to do it asap... Thank you

Anonymous participant there's NO fastest. BUT IF you have a solid application for the workcation DTV... VIENTIANE is a good choice.

Read the posts about getting it there...

Use the search 🔍 tool top of the forum page

ENTER,... Vientiane

CLICK on it and all posts about getting the DTV visa there will Pop Up to read the posts and experiences of others.

IF you want... do the same thing for Vietnam... Hanoi and HCMC Ho Chi Minh City.

There are several well reported posts to read.

My suggestion is Vientiane.

Agreed avoid JKT. Laos is a good option...Vietnam? Taipei is fine as he has the legal business registration docs they love and the financials. Needs to work out why he may have failed though. Sometimes less is more, maybe simplify docs submitted.

Anonymous participant Taipei is a good option. Approval now takes around 7 business days; it can be quicker if not asked for an interview. Simplify means keeping documents as simple as possible, not include unnecessary info. Also did you include a letter saying you have permission to work in Thailand remotely and you will not work with any Thai firms/ clients?
