The story raises so many questions. Why did he overstay? If it was short then why didn't he just self-report and pay the fine, go out? Did he know that the agent was offering an illegal service? If he didn't know, why did he not defend himself since there's a big difference between willful and nonwillful acts. And if he didn't know then why didn't he get a receipt from the agent which would have described the service. Was the agent convicted? What about the officers who made the false stamp?

There are incentives to embellish Thai prison stories. I have always been wary since I read one in the 90s that claimed elephants were brought in to play football with prisoners in bamboo balls and when they got bored stamped the prisoners to death. :-)
