Good evening,

I’m about to travel Thailand with my partner.

We will be moving every other week and working on our laptops, staying in airbnbs/hotels

What would people suggest we travel with:

Suitcase and mini rucksack

Big travel bag and mini suitcase

Or any other suggestions?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers on the best type of luggage for traveling around Thailand while working remotely. Several suggestions are made, including opting for light travel with one or two backpacks. Recommendations vary based on travel styles, with some advocating for durable rolling luggage while others emphasize the advantages of a waterproof holdall. It’s suggested to travel light due to limited luggage space in some transport options. Many contributors note that clothing is inexpensive in Thailand, allowing travelers to wash and re-wear clothes rather than pack excessively.

I take a semi-large back-pack that is about 70% full. Contained within the backpack is a smaller bag that I use for miscellaneous other things. The smaller bag holds my passport, emergency money etc. Sometimes the airlines ask to weigh the bag, at which point I have to check the bag. I take the computers out (as required by airlines) of the bigger page and put them in the smaller bag.

The trick is to have a bag big enough and rugged enough that it can hold ALL of your stuff and can be strapped to the back of a motorcycle. Also, you will want a smaller bag that can hold your necessities, you don't want to dig in your big bag each time you need your passport.

Raining is a factor depending where you go and the time of the year. I water-proof stuff inside the bag instead of the whole bag (put laundry in plastic bag, toiletries in a plastic bag, electric cables, etc, etc). A waterproof bag is easier to get a hole in, than several smaller bags contained within the bag. If you have liquid stuff in your bag and the container busts all your stuff gets slimed with your liquid stuff. Finally, the little plastic bags proove to be useful for a variety of reasons (many stores on small island wont give you plastic bags), so bring some extras.

Not a suitcase. And leave your partner at home.

A backpack and rucksack, the latter can go through as hand luggage and contain your laptop and camera etc.

May I suggest that you travel very light ? If you use the Vans /Toyota minibuses there is not much luggage space anyway. Clothing in Thailand is very cheap reasonable . There is also street washing machines you can use to clean your clothes . Also Hotels /Hostels probably have washing facilitys ?One must is to have a good hat to protect against the Sun .Just shout if you need any more advice .

The Eagle Creek Orv2 rolling luggage is the best there is. It’s indestructible. I’ve traveled all over the world with it in some austere places for years and still zero damage. I travel with that and a North Face backpack as my carry on.

Depends on where you going and where you're staying. If you're staying in the common places that most people like to visit it's very easy to get a ride from one place to another and pull your wheel luggage to wherever you got to go. If you're staying more rural it might be more difficult to drag your luggage and be easier to carry it on your back.
