Answer summary
The user is planning to stay in Thailand for 6 months and seeks advice about obtaining a 90-day retirement visa followed by an extension. Responses indicate that a 90-day extension does not exist; instead, a 1-year extension is available but requires 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account. Alternatives suggested include applying for a Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) or obtaining a 1-year Non-OA Retirement visa from their home country, which also has financial proofs and health insurance requirements.

Gosh, we go round and round on yhe merry go round with thai visas + extentions, jeez
If married to a Thai national and marriage is register in Thailand Or if you ar a biological father for a Yhai child, you can apply for a 60 day family extension after your initially 90 days,,,,90 days extensions does not exist, the other option is a 1 year extension but then you have finsncial requirements you need meet.
Get a 6 month metv you can either then enter in the metv stay 60 days have a short trip to a nearby country return get another 60 days and repeat or get a 30 day extension after the first 60 days then leave and return to Thailand as many immagration offices will only give you 7 days on a second extension
Robert Lummis why would he do that? He would be better off just getting the non o from his home country. But then he has to worry about showing funds for an extension.
There's no such thing as a 90-day extension. The only extension option for a 90-day retirement visa is the 1-year extension, which requires proof of 800,000 baht in your Thai bank account.
NEVER listen to what an embassy tells you about immigration. They have no clue what is available and what their policies are, as it's a completely different government agency and they don't communicate with each other.
