What is the process for changing your name after obtaining a DTV visa in Thailand?

Any insights on going about a name-change after visa has been issued? My partner and I have the DTV already but are planning to get married and I'm unsure about the process or possibilities if I choose to have a legal name change and want to keep my DTV.

Any leads?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To change your name after receiving a DTV visa in Thailand, follow these steps: 1. Obtain a legal name change certificate post-marriage. 2. Update your passport with the new name. 3. Notify the Thai authorities by presenting your new passport and the name change certificate to the immigration office or embassy. 4. You may need to apply for a new visa or modify your existing visa to reflect your updated name. Ensure all documents match your new name to avoid complications at immigration checkpoints. It's advisable to consult the Thai embassy for specific guidance related to your situation.

Does the passport name will change? If you don't change it on the passport, even if you change your local national ID Card, your international name would still be the same.

I'd say it is similar case to the passport that expires while visa is still valid. You just need to travel with both passports and maybe have some additional documents about the marriage. But not speaking from the experience and an email to Thai embassy would be probably the best to get to know what is the correct approach.

1.) You would get a New Passport reflecting your New legal Name

2.) you are gonna have to ask the Thai Embassy/Consulate that issued your DTV Visa Sticker/DTV E–Visa to see if they are able to Amend/Modify your existing DTV Visa Sticker/DTV E–Visa to reflect the New Passport (with new name) or not

3.) if the Thai Embassy/Thai Consulate is not able to, then you have to apply for a New DTV E–Visa with your New Passport

4.) otherwise, just continue to use your Current Passport (with your old legal name) until your current DTV Visa Sticker/DTV E–Visa expires

5.) Happy to hear of other alternatives and experiences that a Thai Immigration Officer at Arrival Entry Port would accept in such a particular circumstance....

📝 Steps to Update Your Name Post-Marriage

1. Obtain a Legal Name Change Certificate: After your marriage, you’ll need to acquire a legal certificate confirming your name change. This process varies depending on your nationality and the country where the marriage took place.

2. Update Your Passport: Once you have the legal name change certificate, apply to have your passport updated with your new name. This step is crucial, as your visa details must match your passport information.

3. Notify Thai Authorities: After updating your passport, inform the Thai authorities about your name change. This may involve submitting your new passport along with the legal name change certificate to the Thai immigration office or the embassy where your visa was issued.

4. Apply for a New Visa (if necessary): In some cases, you may need to apply for a new visa to reflect your updated name. This process typically involves submitting your new passport, the legal name change certificate, and any other required documents to the Thai embassy or consulate.

🔄 Considerations for Re-Entry into Thailand

If you plan to travel outside of Thailand and re-enter with your updated name, ensure that all your documents—passport, visa, and any supporting paperwork—reflect your new name. Discrepancies between your documents can lead to complications at immigration checkpoints.

✅ Recommendations

• Plan Ahead: Allow sufficient time for the name change process, as updating legal documents can take time.

• Consult with Authorities: Contact the Thai embassy or consulate where your DTV was issued for specific guidance on updating your visa details.

• Keep Records: Maintain copies of all documents related to your name change for future reference.
