Hi guys! APPROVED on Friday June 3rd at 4:40PM. That means 20 min before closure of the Consulate in HCMC for the weekend. Ecstatic but rushing to pack and find a ticket out of Da Nang back to Bangkok.
Here's the breakdown:
JUNE 15: I applied for Workation.
Submitted all the required documents with 2 exceptions. Prior to my submission I had emailed the Consulate to ask if the money had to effectively be in the personal bank account for a specific period of time. I explained that I mostly use my business account in the US and I could show enough money there for a long period of time. I also had transfered enough to cover the 500k to my personal account but only recently. They replied there was no mention "for now" of any specific period of time but however I could send my business bank statements to strengthen my application. And so I did.
JUNE 23: I received a request for new documents. See below:
Document indicating current location (e.g., valid visa, receipt(s)/proof(s) of payment of airline tickets or accommodation, etc.): Provide your full passport, including all pages (even blank ones), as well as your Vietnam Temporary Residence Card (if any), accommodation, a selfie taken at a tourist attraction. All photos submitted must clearly show the most recent date and time.
Financial evidence: an amount of no less than 500,000 THB, (e.g., bank statements for the last three months, sponsor letter): Provide a 6-month English bank statement with a balance over 500,000 baht; exclude brokerage/stock/crypto/Bitcoin/investment/business/PayPal/sponsor accounts. Include 6-month salary slips, highlighted in the transactions.
Other request documents: Please provide a company profile that includes details about its history, vision, mission, products, achievements, and a link to your company’s website.
Other request documents: Please provide more details about your work, including how you work with clients and other departments, your qualifications (Bachelor’s degree and related certificates), and supporting visa documents.
So I prepared everything they asked. My only weakness was the financial request, so for that section, I replied copying the reply from the Consulate and resent the exact same financial information I had sent before.
JULY 3: Finally, after preparing for another weekend and few more days away from home, I received the approval.
Suvarnabhumi: arrived at 1am on July 4. Litterally 1000s of people queueing up at immigration. In all my years in Thailand I've never seen it like this. A nightmare. My turn came at almost 4AM. Female officer asked to see my visa and the arrival form. Stamped passport 180 days. No questions.
Success!
Thank you all for your detailed posts and support. When you've lived in this country for a while -or you make plans to do so- a denied entry can be a life changing result and a bit catastrophic. The information in this group has been a great help throughout the process.
