TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian looking to retire in Thailand seeks advice on the relocation process. Community members suggest applying for a Non-O retirement visa or an OA visa while emphasizing the financial requirements, such as having a monthly income of 65,000 THB or 800,000 THB in the bank. They recommend starting with a 60-day tourist visa and seeking assistance from qualified visa agents to manage the paperwork. The discussion highlights the importance of financial planning and living adjustments for a successful transition.

you can do it in Thailand. As long as you're able to read and write you'll manage that easily. It's not rocket science. But if you prefer a nurse holding hands....ask an Agent πŸ˜‚

Start by doing a 60 day touristvisa + 30 day extension, to find out if everyday life in Thailand is as you expect.

Step is finding out what visa to use, and eventual workpermit.

Also contact a qualified financial adviser as there are regulated investment solutions for an Australian under certain circumstances that should they return or oz make their investments tax free under Australian law

TSL Bangkok excellent service will guide you all the way through

As above or you can get an OA visa from your country without having to have money in Thailand. This can last nearly two years. If after that still decide to stay can do above as Jan suggested

Regarding visa, most people retired in Thailand on a Non O retirement visa. It’s recommended to apply for a 90 days Non O visa at home before you leave. Then you easily can open a bank account and apply for a one year extension of stay in Thailand. The requirements are; over 50 years and a monthly income/pension min equal to 65k thai baht or funds equal to 800K thai baht.
