What is the current status of the DTV visa in Thailand and is it going to be cancelled?

I’m planning to move abroad at the beginning of 2027; however, I see a lot of people on the internet talking about a much stricter DTV visa or even it being cancelled in the future. Do you have any information about this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion around the DTV visa (Digital Nomad Visa) indicates a mix of speculation and existing reality. Despite some rumors about potential cancellations or stricter regulations in the future, recent comments lean towards the idea that the DTV is beneficial for Thailand, both economically and socially. While there are concerns about increased strictness and paperwork, there seems to be no definitive change at present, and it remains available for applicants. Many in the conversation suggest focusing on the current status without stressing over speculative rumors.

The DTV is a MONEY MAKER for them, I don’t think there’s any reason they’d cancel it. It hooks people into spending a lot of money for years to come, and a decent amount upfront. Also poaches money-solvent expats from other countries that wish they had them in their economy. Tax implications are another story but that can always change. But I don’t think they wanna beat people up who spend so much by staying.

It ferrets out some visa abusers also, giving a longterm option rather than spamming the tourist stamps. So instead of a hypothetical expat leaving 5 or 6 times for several days or months a year, they stay in Thailand and spend that money within the kingdom. It’s smart for them.

Those who are spreading rumors about cancellations are the ones who were denied the DTV 😂

There are talks that all dtvs will be converted to permanent visa, valid until you die and you get a 100year stamp on each entry

Speculation and imagination! So don't stress about it. What tomorrow beholds is anyone's guess.

For now, the rules are that DTV is available.

Also, I'd say that it's already not that easy to get it with a lot of paperwork being involved and one typo and the application gets cancelled.

Ignore the salty people who want it cancelled. It's wishful thinking on their part.

A lot of people are lonely, so lonely they spend large parts of their days in groups like this, stirring up negative feelings so they can have a conversation with another person. Right now, you don’t need to know any more than that.
