TLDR : Answer Summary
A new expat member seeks advice on the easiest visa option for staying in Thailand for a minimum of 6 months. They are currently on an STV visa and have a Thai partner, though they are not married. Community responses suggest considering a 6-month Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) or a retirement or marriage visa, highlighting various strategies for visa extensions and border runs.

Multi entry and border hopping was a no no in covid,thats why i opted for stv which gave me 90days then restamp immo each 90days up to a max of 270 day stay..just wondering if retirement or marraige visa would be a better choice?

, that totally depends on your preferences, priorities, and how you meet the requirements. No one else than you can say which is the best exactly for you.

correctly pointed out you have to show WHY you need a 6 month METV or they're gonna only sell you a single entry

AND

they're going to keep the difference in price; £150 for the METV versus £30 for the STV (so if they think you don't 'need' an METV you lose £120 😮 )

are they going to continue with the stv?[ i tried to look on the website but it hasnt been updated since the battle of hastings

it is set to run out on Sept 30th, no word on anything other than that. I would say DO NOT get that visa at this time, you could get burned and only get your 90 day entry (not the two 90 day extensions you're allowed)

There are already reports of people here on them who went for their 90 day extension and were given one until Sept 30th only 😮

Wow! I went 2 weeks ago for my STV2 extension and it was extended to 15 November. Thanks for all your great advice over the year/s.

Just for info, a 6 month METV is £150 to buy.

A SETV is £30 to buy. For me, because I'm tight, I would rather go to another country after 90 days (60 days on the visa and a 30 more day extension for 1900 baht ~£45) and buy a second SETV OR come back into Thailand on a free Visa exemption that gives you 30 days +30 extension for 1900 baht (£45 at current exchange rate).

The eVisa system also states that you have to give good reason why you wish apply for a multi entry tourist visa.

I'm not sure what the 'correct' answer would be to satisfy Royal Thai Embassy in London to issue a METV. 🤔

the correct answer as far as what will satisfy the consulate so they issue you an METV is to show an onward flight to another country 60 days after your arrival to thailand and then another flight BACK to thailand shortly after that

they can both be made up bookings just to satisfy the criteria to get the METV

Can't read your whole post.

get a 6 month METV from the thai consulate in the UK using the online eVisa system website before you wing your way here.

That visa is good for unlimited 60 day entries for the 6 months it's valid for. When the 60 days runs out, go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and back into thailand to get another 60 day entry stamp.

You can also extend each of those 60 day stamps by 30 days too at the immigration office for 1900baht.

It's either that OR once you're here on a 60 day single entry tourist visa you take the 30 day extension for 1900baht, border bounce for a 30 day visa exempt entry and then extend that by 30 days for 1900baht but that only gives you 5 months here.

- I’m an Aussie and have used the 6 month METV prior to covid but the METV doesn’t seem to be available now on the Australian Thai Embassy website. Do you know if the 6 month METV is still available to holders of Australian passport holders?
Tod *********
@Alan ******
email them and ask they answer emails pretty quickly

It should be available

@Tod ********
- thanks. I’ll do that.
