The situation in Sudan is truly horrendous, yet another Country in turmoil

Earlier today, a flight has been dispatched from the UK to ‘bring home’ UK citizens trapped due to the fighting

And this has got me thinking, if you live in the country and you are the exact people the evacuation flight is aiming on rescuing, what happens when you land back in the Uk

Imagine you have no friends in the Uk, no family, no ties, no home, the only thing you have that may be in the Uk is a bank account and you speak the language

Where do you stay, how do you arrange this, do they drop you off at an airport (or most likely an RAF base) and having collected your luggage you walk out to the reality of being stranded, safe but in a country you no longer know?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The situation for UK citizens evacuated from Sudan is complex, especially when they lack connections, resources, or a support system back home. The discussion highlights the challenges faced upon return, such as finding temporary accommodation and reintegrating into a country that no longer feels familiar. Community insights emphasize the importance of planning for emergencies while living abroad and the reality that many might start anew, similar to moving to a different country under normal circumstances.

It would be no different then if you flew out of a war torn country on a commercial flight. You have a phone, passport, money. You can go anywhere you like after they repatriated you. If the only connection you have left in the world is in the war torn country then you don't have to leave and there are often many people who choose not to for this reason.

You start from scratch, like you do when you move to Thailand : find a place to rent, etc.

wow, bit like responding to a catastrophic event (flood/ fire/ volcano) and having to move with little if any preparation 😳😢

The turmoil and issues in Sudan is nothing new it's had these problems over many years now and has never improved It defies belief or any reason why anyone would move there anyway even if it was work related or visit surely you would say no with knowing the status of that place over many years

totally agree, it’s on the rare instances something ‘kicks off’ without warning in a country you now call home I am wondering about

Unfortunately when you choose to live in unstable third world countries that is always a risk you take. The world is full of political upheaval., proxy and/or civil wars. Especially in places like Africa and the Middle East where there are ethnic and religious differences.

Hopefully the people being evaded will have a good support system waiting for them.

it is the support system I am wondering about, does the Uk government (aka tax payer) provide the assistance once you arrive back (accommodation/ clothing/ food etc)

I would hope they do. Most likely the Red Cross or something of that nature would be available.

This is something you should plan for because it can happen anywhere. Unless you are a citizen in the country you are residing in you are always a guest and can be deported or forced to leave for other reasons. These UK citizens chose to leave as you know. They could have chosen to stay. Your choice.
