Asking for a friend:

When applying for ED visa (US passport) in Malaysia what documents meet the requirement for proof of residency?

It’s worded : copy of reservation/confirmation of accommodation for the whole stay in Thailand.

My friend is in negotiations on a new apartment and will be living with a Thai. The landlord does not want to put my friends name on the lease. (Friend is American) so wondering. What she can take for her ED visa application to meet this requirement.

(She has already done a previous ED visa in Lao so she must go to Malaysia this time.)

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for an ED visa in Malaysia, proof of residency can include a hotel booking or an invitation letter from the Thai person your friend will be staying with. It's also recommended to include a signed copy of the rentee's ID and lease contract, as these can help satisfy the accommodation confirmation requirement.

Ask that rentee to write an invitation letter to live with. That Letter and (signed) copy of rentee's ID and contract would work.

just curious, the landlord does report to Immigration that the foreigner is living on that address, this is needed so the foreigner can get his Extensions of Stay.

yes they seem to understand the TM30 piece they just for some reason are not wanting my friends name on the lease. They all meet again tomorrow so that might help simplify it all I just thought I’d ask here about the ED visa document options so my friend would have all the information.

A hotel booking would work, or a letter from your friend.
