TLDR : Answer Summary
A successful applicant shares their experience of obtaining a DTV visa in Hanoi within 3 business days. They submitted a bank statement, an explanation of their employment situation, and proof of their presence in Vietnam. They received their visa approval promptly, while others share their concerns and inquiries about the required documents, bank statement details, and general processing times.

Congrats! Did you give all transactions on the bank statements or just the summary with deposits shown? My statements are 4 pages but the summary (1page) shows my deposits as well as balance. Appreciate your feedback!

I included all, because I've read somewhere they would want to see all of incoming/outgoings transactions. Make sure it shows your name, and covers a minimum of 3 months.

Are you applying through Hanoi? When is your travel date?
Amanda ************
@Tammi ****
thank you! Maybe Hanoi or Indonesia. Around the 27th I want to be in Thailand but my dates can be flexible.
Andi ***********
Congrats on the fast approval...You did not submit your accommodation in Vietnam?

I have a feeling mentioning that I will not take local employment really helped strengthen my case as many Filipinos actually come to Thailand to get local jobs. It doesn't make sense to me to do that, so I just highlighted that many times in my cover letter.
Andi ***********
@Tammi ****
Yeah they like to know you are aware of the regulations..You did a good job as 3 days is fast for Vietnam, 5 days seems to be average

I applied pretty early on Friday (8am). I reckon if I applied on a Monday, would have been approved a bit faster, too. I was very thorough, Read every single approved/denied cases in Hanoi (figured it's one of the fastest), double checked everything during submission, and included literally everything I could think of. My list doesn't seem like a lot, but I added 2-3 examples on each.

Proof of employment - certificate from work that I've been working with them for 10 years + salary each month

Financial capacity - 3 months statement with balance more than required + certificate of deposit from another bank (I don't imagine the latter being very strong, but together they help further strengthen my case of financial capacity)

Proof of being in Vietnam - I left Thailand before my 60-day visa exemption, my stamp shows I can stay for 21 days + added Airbnb booking (not receipt even) which shows my VN address.

They didn't ask for proof where I'll be staying in Thailand (I added my previous Airbnb booking in Thailand)

Yes, you have been very thorough, I noticed you thumbing up my old posts recently. This group is a great resource, i used it a lot too for my application. Manilla is a great embassy i think, you didnt want to go there?

@Andi **********
Also why I avoided Malaysia, too. Cos I've seen many horror stories of them taking ages to complete the process.
Andi ***********
@Tammi ****
Foreign applicants are dealt with quick in Manilla There are a few other countries that treat their own citizens differently in the application process. Anyway, you have the DTV so it's all good.

Yes, I'm just glad Vietnam and Jakarta are going strong, I hope no one ruins it for the rest of us.

Very helpful, indeed! I just wanted to avoid the immigration drama there and have to queue for more than 2 hours just go get out of the country. Partly the reason why I got DTV too so I can go to Thailand whenever I fancy without being grilled by my own people. I guess the same way Pakistanis wanna avoid having to go through Pakistan.

I was prepared to even send my recently approved AU tourist visa (I know, completely unrelated) but I reckon it'll help the Thais understand that if the people down under are happy, they can take it easy on me, too 🤣 So ready for every possible scenario.

@Andi **********
I included a screenshot of my Airbnb that shows the address, but since I've only been in Thailand once, they probably didn't think I just bounced 🤣 I don't know, seen others being asked to show proof of receipts in the country, pic being in local hotel/ recognisable spot, etc
Adam **********
For how long time did you have the 500.000 in your bank account?
Tammi *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Adam *********
Far too long, but they only wanted to see the last 3-4 months (as recent as possible). I submitted Nov - Feb.
Tammi *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
I also added a certificate of deposit from another bank (more than 500k on its own). Not sure it helped, but I also included my cover letter showing how long I've been with the company (10 years), why it doesn't make any sense for me to take local employment, etc
Adam **********
Ah okay.. i can have the 500.000 send in 1 week, but they might cancel the application if they see its only been there for couple of weeks
Tammi *****

@Adam *********
I'm not sure about that. For me, they just wanted to see the most recent amount (so I provided Nov - Feb) + business registration to help substantiate the good standing of the company.

Thank You for your helpful report 👍

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

sorry I’m confused about pending approve, that mean they will not ask for more document ?
Tammi *****

Anonymous participant 990 I'm not sure, but mine stayed in pending approval, then approved. They asked for more docs same day, which I complied the next day.

Anonymous participant 990 where did you apply? Intended travel date?

Tip #2: Check your emails by EOD, either they send you the visa, or they request for more docs.

PS - Please don't message me. Ask questions here. Happy to pay it forward and it's easier for others who may be in similar situation, too.

Congrats on the visa!

Seems like Hanoi is generally quicker than Ho Chi Minh, judging from the posts I've seen here.

25th for me, but sooner you put, the sooner they'll likely to get to yours!
Tammi *****

@Rickard ******
Indeed :) and they don't ask too many docs either. Just the most logical ones. Seen HCM asking for all pages of passport? Or maybe cos those got history of bouncing from one country to another 😅
Anon*****
Congrats
@Rickard ******
on the approval! How many days in total were you on the "pending approval" stage?
Rickard *******
@Anon*****
Thanks! Since last Wednesday, the 5th.
Rickard *******
@Tammi ****
they didn't ask me for those yet but I applied on the 3rd and still waiting. Hanoi seems much quicker at least judging from the posts in this group.

The upside is that I've been hanging out in Da Nang and Hoi An and they're really fantastic places to wait for approval.
Tammi *****

@Rickard ******
When is your intended travel date to TH? They seem to prioritise those with earlier travel dates.
Rickard *******
@Tammi ****
I put my travel date as next Monday, which I think in hindsight was a big mistake. I haven't booked a flight and as soon as I get approval I will fly back same day or next. I was scared to put a sooner date, since I figured if it passes and I'm still not approved it's a problem..

Both Da Nang and Hoi An are some of the nicest places I've been in Asia. They're super nice, really cheap, great western and local food, people are really friendly, the nature is gorgeous, weather is better than Thailand.

If I hadn't spent 10 years learning to speak Thai I'd consider living here instead.

Wow I just got approved while writing this! What an amazing day!

congrats. please for bank statement. each month should show ending balance of 500k baht? and did you show them thai bank or your local bank?
Tammi *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Karim ********
I don't know if they are particular about it, but mine simply showed transactions across 3 months + final balance. It's a portal from my company where they send me payments, so they asked for business registration (I just sent LLC public info in the state where it's registered cos HR can't be bothered to look at articles of incorporation. Won't make diff either since my name isn't there). Basically in my case, they just want to know numbers make sense, and company isn't bogus (it isn't, business for 15 years now, been with them for 10 years)
Wannikea *********
@Tammi ****
unclear, did the full 3 months always have 500k in it, or just a final top-up to reach 500k?
Tammi *****

Full 3 months. I barely touch that account.
