What do I need to do to update my passport information for my Bangkok Bank account?

Updating your passport info at your bank or the money will be confiscated rumors. Is ABSOLUTELY FALSE. It’s true that all foreigners with Thai bank accounts need to update their passport information or they will not be able to use the bank phone apps. I bank with Bangkok bank hope this helps and people don’t panic.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Foreigners with Thai bank accounts, such as those with Bangkok Bank, must update their passport information to avoid restrictions on mobile banking services. It is a common misconception that not updating this information will lead to confiscation of funds. Instead, accounts could be frozen if passport details are not updated within 30 days of receiving a new passport. Additionally, users are required to have a Thai mobile number registered in their name linked to their bank account for mobile banking access.

You are required to have a Thai mobile number registered with your passport name, this is linked to your bank account.

no it's not. My mobile is registered in my wife's name and I've been extending my visa for 5 years, but you do need to update your new passport with the bank

The new rules state the Sim must align with the ID holder for the account and only one device per account.

You will loose access to the banking app soon.You need to go and update it.

They won't let you do that forever. Many people reporting the same situation and having to go get a new phone line just for their extension.

Banks now require updating phone information, and the phone number must be registered in your own name! If not, use of mobile banking will be restricted after

Yes the Sim must be registered in your own ID ie Passport. It is one device per account too. This is all to do with mule accounts for scammers
Xu ****
@Tim **********
If the mobile phone number is registered in your own name, you don’t have to go to the bank to do anything!

If not, you need to apply for a mobile phone number in your own name and go to the bank to change your mobile phone number.

bring your passport debit card and that’s it.

They won't take your money. But they will freeze your account if they find out. The banks are more integrated now. They know when you get a new passport. Your bank account should be updated within 30 days of receiving your new passport

100% they have absolutely 0 resources to see when and if you got a new passport

How does the bank know if I get a new passport? Absolute nonsense. Yes I need to update passport details at my banks but there is absolutely no way they would know if I did not tell them. Who woud tell them? The UK HMPO or Thai Immigration? The only 2 possible?

Got my new passport 7 weeks ago.... Both accounts are working fine ..
Clint *********
@Andrew *******
wait till they check. You will be locked out. I have 4 accounts here 1 was frozen and the others were fine. It just depends on when they random kyc pops up. Which it will
Vitaly ********
@Clint ********
they do freeze accounts but it works differently: every 1 or 2 years or never (depends on the bank, the branch and about a thousand other random variables) bank employees decide it’s time to check if your record is up to date, they try calling you a couple of times, you don’t pick up, they decide they’ve tried their best to get in touch with you, so they block your account.

Then you go to your bank to see why your banking app is acting up and they give you this form where you put your address, income numbers/sources, etc. That’s the drill, has nothing to do with you getting a new passport

Probably the bank in question

Both accounts I have are fine

However my Bangkok Bank account which I opened in 1991 was closed via Covid... They took many thousands of baht from my account and closed my account

(I spent all of the Covid scam in Bangladesh)

But my other accounts were not affected

So again... Depends on the bank

More info please…

I have a Bangkok bank account. What do I need to do? I only got this account a bit over a month ago…
Greg ********
@Cam *******
If just account is new you should be fine. Basically the account must match the name on the SIM card which must be tied to an ID such as passport.
