TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the CR-1 visa application process for a Thai spouse moving to America. Users emphasize the lengthy waiting period, which can average between 15 to 24 months, depending on various factors such as paperwork accuracy and processing times at USCIS and the State Department. While the overall denial rate is low, applicants are warned about the risks of denials related to perceived fraud and insufficient evidence. There is also mention of challenges specific to Southeast Asia, highlighting potential delays due to high application volumes.
Definitely not a forgone conclusion. They can and do deny CR1 if they think it's fraudulent due to numerous factors ranging from big age gap to lack of supporting evidence. The waiting time is 18 months to 2 years or more.
Hiring a lawyer achieves absolutely nothing to advantage an application and can, in fact, slow or down if any errors are made on the application. Keep in mind that immigration lawyers typically assign all their visa administration work to less qualified legal assistants as it is seen as simple paperwork. However these assistants can and do make errors that can harm an application.
Processing times vary according to countries with SE Asia typically drawing up the rear due to large numbers of applications and the necessity for closer screening due to higher levels of fraud.

Denial is only 8%, but average wait time has increased to 15 months not factoring in the layoffs of approximately 3400 beginning in June at the State Department. Be prepared to hang in there.
I have mine in since Oct 2. It will take about 15 months for the 1st phase at USCIS. Once approved there it goes to the State Department where you fill out other forms and fees. After about two months or so you have to wait on the Embassy interview which can take months. Like Brandon said it's a waiting game as long as your paperwork and evidence are in order.

It's just a waiting game. As long as you do everything correctly, the visa is a foregone conclusion. You just have to wait it out.
