TLDR : Answer Summary
This post discusses the process and considerations for non-immigrant visa holders in Thailand when planning a visa run to Cambodia or Laos. Comments highlight misconceptions about the necessity of a visa run for those already holding a visa and suggest practical tips for transport options across borders.

Osmach, Chong Chong or savanaketh, mukdahan , No Problems , don't buy a bus ticket in mukdahan , ask one of the private cars or trucks and five them a tip

That doesn't make sense. Why would you need a visa run if you already have a visa?

planning to return as tourist

then the visa you have now doesn't really mean anything for your visa run. But I don't think there's many agencies that do actual visa runs rather than border bounces, because it requires hotels and multiple days.

we're the only country where it has come to the expat community's mind that visa runs and border bounces are supposedly different things. Please just answer this person's question, it's very clear what he's after.

I did clearly answer the question. He said he's planning to return as a tourist. That means he wants a tourist visa. I don't know many agencies that offer to take someone to an embassy and handle everything over multiple days.

I think you're (willingly) misinterpreting the question, in relation to the visa run/border bounce discussion. Coming as a tourist does not require a tourist visa; visa exemption or visa on arrival are also meant for tourists. Most travelers who would like to enter as tourists would use those. So a "visa run" aiming to re-enter as tourist would typically just involve a border bounce. He also confirmed this in his last reply.

But indeed, would be useful to know where he currently is.

yet they are different things entirely. But there's always someone that claims apples and pears are the same thing, which only adds to confusion when you actually want an apple but are given a pear and told it's the same... It's not.

"visa run" is accepted and very common terminology for what is constantly claimed to be exclusively referable to as "border bounce" in these Thailand groups. Everyone else uses the terms interchangeably. Has it occurred to you that virtually everyone who is new here uses "visa run"? It's the more common of the two terms.

I think it may be better to ditch the axe on the usage of these terms and start answering to what is often clear people mean. Here is it clear enough.
Lyndon ************
@Bart *************
and those who aren't 'new here' tend to use more precise terms, to accurately describe what they want, as they know asking for apples will often get you pears, unless you know the difference.
Bart **************
@Lyndon ***********
it's accepted terminology elsewhere and my point is that it would be great if it could also become accepted here. A "visa run" typically means someone intends to bounce a border to renew something, be it visa exemption, a visa on arrival, or trigger a new entry on one's multiple entry visa of whichever type. Going to a nearby embassy to buy a visa is much less common and afaik isn't commonly meant when people talk about a "run". I do not propose axing our ways through the discussions where people use the term as such; I'm just proposing to ditch the axe when people use "visa run" the way this is commonly used elsewhere.

@Bart *************
tourist visas are also meant for tourist. Hence the commonly used term visa run, where people go and get a new visa.... As opposed to the commonly used term, border bounce where people bounce out of Thailand and back in to renew their admitted until date stamp.
Lyndon ************
@Bart *************
yeah, but here is Thailand not elsewhere... And it's not accepted terminology by many who know the difference

When people are doing a 'run' as you put it... There's no way of knowing what kind of 'run' they want to do or even of they need to do one at all. Many people do border runs who could have just extended their stamp.

You like your emotive terms... "Ditch the axe" it's not an axe though is it. It's an attempt to avoid confusion.
