TLDR : Answer Summary
A western couple, currently on annual Retirement visa extensions, is seeking information regarding new medical insurance requirements. Discussion reveals that those with a Non-Immigrant Type NON-O visa may not need to present evidence of medical insurance despite having it.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.

The transfer stamp says: Original Non-Immigrant Type NON-O. That means we dont need to present evidence of Med. Ins. (even tho' we have it)? many many thanks for your advice.
This is how you tell if you started with an O visa or an O-A visa
LOOK at the current passport (which obviously does not have the original visa in it) BUT which will have a notation on the page they transferred the stamps from the old passport stating what the original VISA type was
Okay, let's start out with WHERE you got your "retirement visas"
Did you get it from your country BEFORE you came here and did it require a police background check, a medical certificate AND you showed proof of funds in your country? AND were you stamped in to the country for a whole year when you showed up?
