I have seen that there is something called grandfather rights giving lower qualifying funds required if held a retirement visa continually since prior to Oct 2008 - is this correct please and does a continuous combination of marriage & retirement visa's/extensions count? thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The query discusses whether individuals who have held a retirement visa continuously since before October 2008 can benefit from lower qualifying funds due to "grandfather rights." It clarifies that the actual relevant date for these rights is October 21, 1998, and that continuous extensions of stay based on being over 50 years old are required. Furthermore, it addresses the issue of whether a combination of marriage and retirement visas/extensions would qualify.

The article in the Phuket Paper (which has since been shared by every thai-related website on the interweb mistakenly used the date 2008 instead of 1998 :O

This is the "grandfather clause" in the new police order NOTE the year is 1998 NOT 2008

Only if you're inside Thailand from before 21 Oct 1998 on continuous Extensions of Stay based on being over 50 years of age.
