What is the easiest(not needing to attend anything) and cheapest option to stay 1 year in Thailand?

1. Visa Exempt/TR Visa + Covid Extension + ED Visa(if Covid Extensions gets revoked)

1. Visa Exempt/TR Visa + STV Visa(if this scenario is possible and becomes official)

1. Or something else?

Thank you! 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is inquiring about the easiest and cheapest way to stay in Thailand for one year without the need to attend physical appointments or processes. They suggest considering options like the Visa Exempt/ Tourist Visa combined with Covid Extensions or an Education Visa (ED) if the Covid Extensions are revoked. Additionally, they mention the STV Visa but require clarification if it can be issued while currently in Thailand.

What do you mean by "not attend anything"?

Like ED visa you need to go to school, or volunteer visa you need to volunteer and so on.

I think the cheapest option would be getting the TR visa for 90 days and then hope the covid extension is still available and use that until it gets revoked and then get a 6 month ED visa or hope borders open up by then do border runs :)

Daniel Kim. You cannot plan a twelve month stay on the "hope" that the Covid extension will remain! The indications of things opening up in October/November are suggesting the covid extension days are drawing to a close!

Yes it is a bit risky to have to enter with only hopes, but no risk no reward 🙂 but if they revoke the covid extension I would be able to get the ED or volunteer visa pretty quickly with an agency.

Daniel Kim. You could but then you're getting into expensive territory as these visas are not strictly legitimate.

yes so that would be my secondary option, I think that when the covid extension will revoke the borders to neighboring counties will open up, this is also just hopes🙂

Daniel Kim. I'd say the land borders might be closed to foreigners for a while, which is why the STV has been reinstalled. The STV replaced the need for border bouncing. Many of the covid outbreaks were caused by border infringements, so I'm guessing they'll be closed for a while. If you definitely need a year, I think the STV is your best bet and look at the options at the end of the nine months, with possibly either a border bounce or a covid extension. Hopefully the relaunched STV will not be so rigid in that changing to another category in-country will be possible, but common sense does not always prevail

yes I will wait a bit more to see what the requirements for STV are, if they are the same I will have no choice but to get the SETV or visa exempt and then figure out what to do on the spot. If they will remove the requirement of prebooked/prepaid housing for the first 90 days and the local insurance requirement, for the STV, everything will be much easier! Any idea when they will discuss that matter? I will be leaving for Phuket 24th of October so I have not too much time left.

there was nothing said about changing the requirements to get the STV or to get the 90 day extensions inside the country once you're here on it. It's still a cumbersome, troublesome visa to screw with

alright thanks! So low probability of anything changing with the STV, might just give up the thought of acquiring it then...

Daniel Kim. In that case, other than splashing big bucks on the Elite Visa, there's no 12-month option, the 9-month STV is the only choice

But with STV visa I would not need to attend anything just get the visa.

STV does not get issued inside Thailand.

alright, I heard that STV could be a bit problematic with housing and later on extensions and visa changes. People doesn’t seem to recommend it.
