TLDR : Answer Summary
The Songkran festival, celebrated in Thailand from April 13-15, does not have an equivalent water drenching celebration in Vietnam, as the country does not observe Songkran or a similar festival during that time. In Cambodia, Songkran coincides with their New Year celebrations, typically also from April 13-15, and features water-related festivities. The conversation reflects confusion among expats regarding the celebration of Songkran in both countries and clarifies that Vietnam does not participate in the water drenching aspect of the festival.

Vietnam is a civilized country, and has lots of festivals, never sonkran or water fighting. Upcoming DaNang festivals focuses on international firework competition .. similar to HK and Vancouver.
David **********
Vietnam does not do Songkran it is a Thai thing (it is literally Thai New year) and also Cambodia is trying to claim it as well these days

All they have is festivals put on by either Thai Embassy or shopping centers etc not actually part of there culture. Singapore also does that every year. As do many other countries.

Vietnamese new year is called Tet and its usually nearer end January. They dont officially celebrate Songkran.

@Michael *******
I am well aware of Tet but thanks. I was just trying to find out how uncontrollable it was. It appears that Vietnam is sporadic and under control. I haven't gotten any suitable answers about Cambodia yet.

Cambodia dates is same as Thailand but was more subdued and traditional when i went which was about 15 years ago and only really water/flour on the 13th.

They did tame it down a bit when there was a few deaths at one festival when a bridge or platform collapsed

But a lot can change in that time
Darren *******
@Glenn ****
no they don't, their new year is at a completely different time and doesn't involve throwing water around

so organised events as opposed to like in Thailand and Cambodia where people just play on the streets. Google is your friend then.

@Darren ******
if you watched my 1st video they were using water guns. I can agree that it is not like Thailand
Darren *******
@Glenn ****
using whatever they want, it's an organised event and not a random street party like in Thailand and Cambodia.

The Lao people celebrate their New Year, Pi Mai (pronounced Pii-My) every year from April 13 or 14 to April 15 or 16. The celebration is considered to be the most important and biggest traditional festival in the country.

You will need to google, spelling Laos correctly, Also it will help to recognize that Songkran - is Thai... So places like Cambodia, Laos (notice the spelling), Vietnam won't participate (Only Canadians observe Canada day).

Songkran is Thai version of Buddha new year. If you google Buddha New Year (country name spelled correctly) google works much better.

Google is good for helping you find what you are looking for, but if you don't know what you are looking for, not google nor this group will be much help

who said anything about Laos? I am well aware of the different names . A bit early for drinking isn't it?

I can see it now

5 people sitting around a table

Person one asks who is on the top of the league

Person two doesn't know and says nothing

Person three says I think it is .....

Person four says it is definitely ........ i just

saw it on the television

And the the last twit says to go google it

Perhaps read your original post... You're making yourself sound stupider than you really are, I hope.. Or maybe you need to put down the bottle.

I guess I misunderstand "Same dates as LOS?" to mean Laos (Sometimes Lao). Perhaps you meant League of Shitheads?

My mistake for trying to help... I guess if you can't figure-out google you are beyond my help.

Maybe there is a "we can spell" fb group or "we can google" fb group. I guess I never thought about it.
