Hi,

So, I'm on an ED visa for the last 31/2 years from Ramkhamhaeng University. I finish in November, and they say i need to cancel my ED visa. I am not married to my Thai partner, but we have a 2 year old daughter. What is my best option...

1) Can i cancel the ED visa and change to a Non B without leaving the country?

2) I leave and come back in on a tourist visa and then change to a Non b.

3) I leave and come back in on a Non o child dependent visa, and apply for a work permit while staying on the Non o child dependent.

4) Any other options?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on an ED visa, finishing their studies at Ramkhamhaeng University, and is exploring their options for changing their visa type. They are considering the following options: 1) Cancel their ED visa and switch to a Non-B visa without leaving Thailand, 2) Leave and return on a tourist visa, then change to a Non-B visa, 3) Leave and return on a Non-O child dependent visa while applying for a work permit. Community responses clarify that it is not possible to change from an extension of stay to a new visa without leaving the country, suggesting that the user should consider leaving and coming back with a tourist visa as the simplest solution.

No, you can not change from an Extension of Stay to a new Visa inside the country. You maybe can change to a new Extension of Stay if all the paper work is in order, I advice to check with your Immigration Office in detail before you make the move. The Extension of Stay based on study will be first cancelled and if you miss one small item for a new Extension you have to leave directly of face overstay.

Is it possible to change from extension of stay based on study to a Non B visa without leaving the country? I have an employer with the necessary paperwork ready to help me.

Okay, so you do NOT have an ED Visa but an Extension of Stay based on study. You have to cancel this Extension of Stay on the last day of school. You can do this in advance to get some time to make travel plans. I would say the easiest option is to leave and come back with tourist Visa and change this into Non Immigrant B visa with help of your employer.

I would get 1 year extensions if my grades were high which they always were :)

First of all how did you manage to stay on a ED visa for 3

years. All surrounding countries provide the Single Entry ED Visa valid for 3 months or when going to University the Multiple Entry ED visa valid for 1 year?
