Dear Thai Advice Group, Excited to be arriving in CM soon! Very excited! Coming to Chiang Mai 8/8/18 getting a 3 month visa from Thai Consulate in Houston. Consulate requires a departure ticket as well. Which city is best to visa-run from CM to insure best chance for immediate reentry? How soon should I depart for the visa run before 3 month expiration? Which is better, plane or bus? If bus, which bus system to use? If plane, which airline to use? Can I purchase bus ticket online? Thank you in advance. My best, Guy Monroe.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Guy Monroe is seeking advice on the best city to perform a visa run from Chiang Mai, while holding a 3-month visa obtained from the Thai Consulate in Houston. He questions the timing and method of travel for the visa run and looks for recommendations on bus and airline options, including the possibility of purchasing bus tickets online.
On entry you will get 60 days of stay, you can apply at local Immigration for extension for 30 days and than leave to Vientiane for a new Visa. Vientiane Laos is the most easy Consulate in the area.
Do you suggest bus or flight out of CM? I just checked with travel agent, she can get me a round trip flight from CM to Vientiane Laos for $220. When you go, do you use the bus or fly? My best,
The validity of the visa is 3 months but will only get you stamped into Thailand for 60 days. Your options to extend or apply for another visa are wide open. Personally Id go for Vientiane, Laos for another single entry tourist visa
