Hello from Switzerland. Thanks for admiting me in the group. For me the best is to ask for an O non immigrant visa for people over 50 years old by internet on the website. It is little bit more expensive than 60 days exemption and 1900 bahts for extension visa 30 days and you win lot's of time not waiting and making queue at the Immigration Office and have to pay for taxi go and back.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the advantages of applying for a Non-O visa for individuals over 50 years old, particularly through online applications, which can be more convenient and time-saving compared to the 60-day exemption. Participants discuss associated costs, the flexibility regarding onward travel requirements, and the need for health insurance. Additionally, the necessity of showing financial proof upon application and the overall implications of remaining in Thailand for extended periods are explored.

I have never had to show evidence of onward travel from Thailand,in the many times I've visited! With all the online speculation,( I wonder of which is fact..?!) I arrived in June this year. So to be on the safe side I purchased a ticket to Phnom Penn; wasn't even asked at entry, straight through!

Strange never experienced it! But maybe one day!

I have been asked by the airline on my last two trips (one this year) and wouldn’t have been able to board the flight if I hadn’t got an onward ticket. Immigration can ask but rarely do, whereas airlines are asking more often now.

well, nobody can guarantee that your airline won't ask. However on a 90-days non-Imm-o visa category, you normally needn't show onward travel proof, because this visa can be changed into a longstay. There are many people who fly to Thailand on a one-way ticket, on a Non-Imm-O visa, and they won't be asked once they show this visa upon check-in

I totally appreciate this but I guess after covid I confess I can be a bit of a cynic.

In that the risk of getting run over especially in Thailand ,when crossing a road is somewhat worse than a lot of other risks!

Life is a risk endex! One can just try to alleviate the risk!

I wonder what the statistics indicate in being asked for an onward journey? Probably not even recorded!

Jean-Bernard Kammer . . . . yes, that's right. It gives you 90-days stay permit in one piece, you don't have to visit Immigration for a 30-days touristic expension. The visa fee is 70.- Euros for Germans and should be equivalent in Swiss Francs. There is NO mandatory health insurance requirement, however I recommend you prepare yourself accordingly for a 90-days holiday. The only downside is that for the E-Visa application by the Bern Thai embassy, you need to show a financial proof.

A lot depends on how much time, and the number of visits you will have during a 12 month period to Thailand, as to whether you need a visa or not.

The OP is weighing up the benefits of taking a small financial "loss" by purchasing the Non-O Visa

Health insurance?

@Linhof ********
there is no health insurance requirement for a 90-days Non-Imm-O retirement visa. however I recommend one should have one for a 90-days holiday

It depends on how many months you plan to stay in Thailand.
Graham ******
and you also don't need proof of onward travel at check-in so another saving/convenience to factor in

@Graham *****
exactly, the airline will not ask if you show a 90-days Non-Imm-O visa
