That will be very difficult for your friend. However, if he/she has a couple million Baht in the bank, well established & verifiable employment, and ties to the local community (e.g. owns a home, children in school, etc.) then it is probably possible but it is a very complicated process.

Yeah, tell me about it. Although I am hoping that because the visitor is from Laos, they will not be held to the same strict scrutiny as visitors from Thailand.

it took my wife 2 years to get a visa to come as a tourist. She paid and got burned by a few agents. She had to prove she was coming back by showing employment and home ownership. She got letter from her temple and employer. He took 2 years
