What are my chances of being denied entry to Thailand if I apply for a tourist visa after a previous overstay?

Some honest advice needed.

First trip Thailand was March 2025 for 5 weeks. Then went back in in Thailand. From the end of August till early may in Thailand with 2 breaks in the phillephines for 1 and 2 weeks.

So I spend 8 months total and had a 9 day overstay when I left because the Iran war and the inflated ticket prices and canceled flights. On my last entry I also got taken aside and had to proof im a legit tourist and proof funds and all. When I did it was all good but I got warned to get a visa next time.

This year it all changed tho I got a new job and can’t work from abroad anymore, but I do got 3 weeks off next month and would love to spend that time in Thailand.

Gonna apply for a tourist visa but before I spend my hard earned money and waist my time. Do you guys think they will let me in? I will have more then enough money in my bank and enough cash in my wallet. Plus onward flights hotels and all will be booked.

Sorry for the long read but it’s really stressing me out.

How big is the chance I will be denied entry?

I would book a refundable ticket to another destination that same day later in the evening in case they deny you and then cancel that refundable ticket just in case they stamp your visa and let you in. That way you have a back up plan that you can receive your money back if it doesn’t work out.

If they warned you to get a visa then get a visa the embassy will check your eligibility before issuing it

You can just use a guaranteed visa entry company that will walk you through customs with no problems no matter how many stamps are in your passport. 4k to 10k baht

thankfully I got my retirement visa and don’t have to do the horrible border runs anymore. I always used the agencies to ensure that I got entry and was never denied

Probably should stress yourself less and find somewhere else to take your next holiday. Unless you have a specific yearn for Thailand, park it until next year.

Nobody can tell you with any certainty, if you will have a problem or not.

Even a visa is no guarantee that you will be allowed into Thailand.

You can increase your chances considerably by following all the rules applicable to tourists: have THB 20,000 in cash ( any major currency is acceptable) on your person, dress properly, have a confirmed return flight, and have some hotels booked (print out the bookings) and have some "tourist" things planned. Be prepared to answer questions clearly and honestly. You will be in the system, when you stand in front of the IO and they can see all your entries/ exits and even the warning and overstay.

Be prepared to give a short explanation why you stayed in Thailand for so long, and explain that this time is only a short holiday.

*Never ever* mention, that you may have worked in Thailand during your previous stays- as this is illegal.

🤔 legit tourist having spent 8 months in the kingdom in the last 17.

What you have is irrelevant.

Only way to find out is to pay your money and take your chance.

Are you over 50 so can get a Non-O visa which will greatly improve your chance of entry?

Nobody can really tell you other than the immigration officer you will stand in front of, I certainly wouldn't try coming visa exempt.
