Should I book and pay for flights and ASQ to complete my Non-Immigrant O-A visa application for Thailand?

Hi all (again) 😂

Another question from a newbie in the UK.

I was informed by (London Thai Embassy) to complete the Non Immigrant O-A visa application online, print out then send to the embassy along with all the other information requirements.

Once the visa was returned to me then book flight and ASQ and apply for COE.

Stage 3 of the application requires mandatory fields completed for stage 4 (payments etc)

Stage 3 is asking for flight number, dates out and landing in Thailand and ASQ booking?

So, do I /shall I just book and pay everything to complete the visa application?

Thanks for any ‘accurate’ advice all

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on whether they need to book and pay for their flights and ASQ (Alternative State Quarantine) accommodation while completing the Non-Immigrant O-A visa application. Various community members share their experiences, indicating that it is common to provide intended flight details and ASQ bookings during the application process but suggest flexibility in bookings due to possible changes. Most agree that it is advisable to wait for the visa approval before making non-refundable bookings.

, I did pretty much same as Lisa above. I applied at RTE London in Nov for VISA and flew MAN>DXB>BKK with Emirates in Dec.

For VISA application I put my intended flight and ASQ hotel (I had not booked/paid anything at this stage). When my passport was returned with VISA now in it I applied for COE using same flight and ASQ info. Once COE was pre-approved I then booked flight and ASQ and uploaded ticket & ASQ booking to complete COE application. Pretty straightforward, just confusing at the start.

Yes exactly

I looked at flights and just put in flight numbers. I didn't actually book flights or ASQ, until visa granted and returned. For OA & COE you will need 1 year in and out patient insurance, including covid cover too.

yeah. I flew from Manchester. Qatar- Doha-BKK. 1.5 hour stop over in Doha. Nice to stretch legs and visit duty free.

I did mine in Oct in London UK, I had to Submit the visa application - after you have set it to complete, on the system - then pay online, print the bar code, post passport and paperwork with a return stamped envelope.

Very confusing... aren't you supposed to submit the COE first and than send the Passport for the Visa?

Nope. COE is the last doc issued.

different Thai embassy's have different processes. London in October was Visa first, once passport back start the COE. Check on your local embassy Web site.

I just put the flight number and ASQ that I intended using. Once my visa was approved I booked and paid for both and when I had the confirmation applied for the COE.

can you actually do that from the UK?

What if you then can’t get the flight or ASQ you stated, is it easy to change?

@Shaun *******
Yes, I did this from the uk and flew out 1 Jan. I think I put Qatar originally on the visa application but changed my mind and flew with Emirates in the end. It’s only a problem if you change the details after you get your COE as then you will have to notify the embassy and get a new one.

Yes you do need to pay for your flights and ASQ. Buy a fully flexible flight and ASQ. There is a small chance that your COVID-19 PCR test comes back posutive and you will have to delay the whole trip until you get a negative test result. Re-booking your flight will be much easier if you have booked direct with the hotel and airline. I hope you don't need to worry about this scenario and have a fantastic trip.

I had similar fro Canadian Consulate in Vancouver. The wanted intended dates I was planning to stay. Visa was approved and returned in my passport with a 3 month window for which to travel. I booked flights and ASQ and applied for COE and done. It was simple.
