TLDR : Answer Summary
There is no grace period for extensions based on retirement in Thailand. Once the extension expiry date is surpassed, the individual is considered to be in overstay.

There is no grace period for a 1-year extension. The minute you pass the due date, you are on overstay.

It depends on the Immigration office/officer if you can apply for a new 1-year extension with paying an overstay fine after you are on overstay
