I'm going to Las Vegas for 1 month and then flying back to Bangkok. I'm curious if there is any added benefit for using the student visa by enrolling in a school and learning Thai as opposed to just getting a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the advantages of using a student visa (ED visa) to learn Thai versus opting for a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for an extended stay in Thailand. While the student visa offers the benefit of language learning, the METV allows for a longer stay (up to 270 days) without the requirement to attend classes. Ultimately, the choice depends on the individual's interest in learning Thai and their travel plans.

If you are thinking of using an ED visa just as a means to further your stay here rather than actually learning thai I'd say give it a pass and go with the 6 month METV

The added benefit would be learning to speak Thai... :)

Absolutely not! It's a beautiful language. And when in Rome... or Bangkok.... :D

Multi Entry Tourist Visa gives you periods of 60 days stay inside Thailand, can extend with another 30 days and if used to the max you can stay up to 270 days as a tourist enjoying yourself. Ed Visa to learn Thai gives you 90 days of stay, than Extend with papers from school for another 60 or 90 days depending on school. You learn Thai, a benefit, but you will spend time in classrooms.
