Answer summary
A user seeks advice on obtaining a retirement visa in Thailand with a pension of 3000€ without the required 800,000 Baht in a bank. Several commenters provided insights: verifying income through an embassy, the feasibility of procuring a Non-Imm-O visa, and the potential need for a Thai bank account. Health insurance is not mandatory for the visa, but caution is advised regarding coverage for pre-existing conditions. Suggestions include contacting agencies for assistance and consulting resources specialized in visa applications.

You can get agency’s that put in the money into the bank . Then they draw it back out , I think it costs around £800 , then around £300 annually

on a 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa, and the 1-year extension, there is no mandatory health insurance. This means the choice is yours if you wish to have an insurance or not. Keep in mind most Thai private Health Insurances will not cover pre-existing conditions . . this is a very sensitive topic

apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa through the e-visa online system of the Royal Thai Embassy Paris. On this visa, you can get a bank account opened. As this MIGHT (!!) be a requirement of Immigration for the application to the 1-year Extension of the Stay Permit - despite you doing the financial proof with an embassy-verfied pension income. SOME Immigrations want to see that you are keeping a Thai bank account into which they might want to see that you transfer yourself some money for living expenses from abroad. So, arriving on a Non-Imm-O visa gives you a certain security in being able to get a bank account opened. ATTN: right after having entered Thailand, visit Immigration and kindly ask the for the handout-list of requirements for the "1-year extension of temporary stay permit based on retirement" so you can get prepared

The Paris embassy sucks. Honestly I would avoid it and just go to Thailand and get the non-O in country. With an income certificate, shouldn't need to screw around with a bank account first. Can worry about that after getting the non-O or the extension.

agreed. There are many reports of the Paris Embassy harassing applicants and take one month to process an application

You can only get annual extensions using income if your embassy in Thailand provides certification of income. So you would need to check if your embassy in Thailand offers this. If they do, then you can use that for both your initial 90-day visa and your extensions.

If they do not do it, then your ONLY option for the first 1-year extension is showing you have 800,000 baht in your Thai bank account.

Perhaps you could explain something to me.

"certification of income". About 10 years ago, I went through the process here in Thailand, but didn't complete it and returned home to the U.S.

But at the time I got the letter from the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, it was made clear to me that *I* was making an income statement and the U.S. Embassy was only verifying that I appeared before them, proved it was me, and signed the document.

They were essentially "notarizing" my signature, NOT verifying my income.

Is this stil the case ? Or does the Embassay actually verify the applican'ts income (also ?)

TIA

That is exactly why you can't use it anymore if you are from the US. Immigration found out it was not actually certified, it was just notarized. They informed the embassy they would no longer accept it, and the embassy stopped. Many others have stopped as well. It is no longer an option for people from those countries.

you cannot get a year extension if you arrive as a tourist. You must first apply to convert from tourist to non-O. Then after 60 days you can apply for the 1-year extension. You might have to get the certificate from your embassy twice, or they might let you use the same one within 2 months.

But you'll need at least 15-21 days left on your entry stamp when you go to immigration to apply for the conversion to non-O. So you better find out how long it would take to get the certificate from your embassy in Thailand.

the French Embassy in Bangkok does issue an income verification. A pension of 3000.- Euro is more than sufficient, as 65,000 THB equal something like 1750.- Euro
