TLDR : Answer Summary
When considering whether to use the automated check-in or check in at the airport for EVA Air flights from London to Bangkok, opinions vary among travelers. Some recommend paying for seat selection to ensure you sit together, while others suggest that checking in online 24 hours before your flight could also guarantee seating together at no extra cost. Many travelers found that electronic check-in streamlined the process of dropping off luggage, although experiences at the airport can vary, with some reporting delays due to long queues. Ultimately, it seems beneficial to check in online as soon as possible and consider the additional costs of seat selection based on personal preference.

Just ask some people is they wanna swap seats

Let them choose the seat , it's harder work for them

Yes very good airline. Just check in on line and get there early

I flew with EVA from Brisbane to Bangkok using Flight Center as agent, couldn't choose seats, when tried to book online was very expensive, however, from 48hrs before flight time, you can do web check-in online, choose seats then with no charge? Think probably same for you?

book direct and get choice of seats at time of booking.

was considerably cheaper through Flight Center at the time.

Flight center….I’m going to look into that.

understood. Had the same concern when booking my last trip. United was cheaper code share with ANA so I called ANA to find out what’s up. Booking third party or code share does not get you the same privileges as booking direct. I wanted to upgrade to front row economy but could not do so if third party or code share flight. Also changes and cancellation fees are different. Just my two cents worth.

P.S. Excellent airline BTW.

Crazy not to do online check-in. And Eva allows check-in 48 hours prior to departure - do it as soon as the window open and there's no way you won't be seated together (for free)

I did the flight to paris not uk. But what i found was that AFTER you do checkin you can change your seat free of charge (but they charge if you want to do it beforehand). So i checked in online as soon as jt was opened and changed my seats. It was no issue and no cost. This was in Feb and May this year

Another reason why I will never fly them again…

You should be able to select free 48 hours early.

Was your customer service as bad as ours?

have not tried to get in touch with them , was just wondering the process, iv always pre booked my seats for free previously and just checked in before I fly

I haven’t flown that route but have flown EVA a few times this year. I’m just wondering why you wouldn’t choose your seats at the time of booking? That’s what I did and there was no charge.

I flew EVA in July BKK to Heathrow and return. Personally i was very impressed. I had empty caes leaving BKK so no problems. I used the check in desk at Heathrow and they were very hot on the weight even on the carry on. Go over the weight allowance and you will be charged

I fly with Eva. Last time was mid July. I never bother booking the seat until online checking opens. Never had an issue. The seats are actually very good.

It’s the biggest con in aviation they’ll be asking next …

“Seating or Standing Sir?”

Squatting, only one allowed per toilet, two if related

I went with EVA from H'row > BKK in May. All the people that had checked in online had to queue at the auto machines to get thier baggage labels printed and then join the same queue as everbody else for the same check in desks just to put their luggage on the conveyor belts. Absolute farce!!

that's a joke , better off checking in at the airport then

that's what I did. To make matters worse, Eva were not opening the check in desks particularly early so instead of 2 relatively shorter queues there was just a massive scrum all in one snaking queue. I checked my watch more than once. Perhaps a hiccup on the day I don't know but not a very enjoyable experience. Only benefit I can see to checking in online is if you can select your seats (even at a premium). I know I wouldn't be happy being seated seperately for 12 or 13 hours!

Paying for seats together is a scam, you can check in online 24 hours before the flight and choose your seats for free or if you check in nice and early at the airport you will get seated together anyway.

Just did Bangkok to London a couple of weeks ago. Did the electronic check-in which made it easier at the airport. Just had to drop bag off and that was it. As for seat selection I didn't bother as flying alone, and personally not bothered where I sit.

That’s cheap compared to emirates and etihad !

£110 just to sit together! Personally I’d be glad of the peace for 10hrs….

I haven’t flown this route, but have flown EVA (among many others). It is almost always the case that if you really want to sit together and you care about your seats (do you mind sitting in the back of the plane?), you should pay for the seats you want. Doing so makes the question about when/where to check in moot, since you will have your seats already confirmed, but checking in online as soon as it’s available increases the chances that things will go smoothly. That said, if you purchased tickets together and are on one confirmation, you will PROBABLY be seated together. No guarantees, though, unless you pay for seats.
