TLDR : Answer Summary
An American expat with an e-visa is considering whether to go to Malaysia or Poipet for a visa run. Comments suggest that traveling to Malaysia is preferable, as Poipet has a reputation for difficulties with entry and potential denial. Some advise applying for the education visa while in Malaysia, and others share positive experiences with Kuala Lumpur. It is generally agreed that avoiding Poipet is wise due to past issues faced by travelers.

Yes I believe if you go in person you may apply for a Visa no problem that's why I went there. You go to the Thai embassy they give you some paperwork and you come back the next day with everything unless you know what you need and bang you get your Visa.

If you want the ED and need to go abroad for it anyways, why not apply for the ED there?

They are both border bounces.

But literally ANYWHERE is better than going to Poipet. That's the single worst border for all of Thailand and they love to deny entry to people and leave them stranded in Cambodia.

The easiest is to just find a land border bounce agency to take you out and back same day.

the only one I'm familiar with is "Thai visa service" they should be easy to find on Google. They leave from the Lotus at On Nut BTS station.
