TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats suggest arriving early to Chang Wattana for the yearly non-Immigrant O visa extension, although recent experiences indicate that the immigration office is less crowded nowadays. Reports show that even arriving around 9 am can lead to a quick processing time.

I went last Thursday to renew my retirement visa arriving about 7.45 and was done and dusted by 10.30 including multiple re-entry permit and a coffee en route to get a copy of my new visa for the permit! WOW!!

I had someone show up there at 9am, go down stairs get his bank letter written by his bank branch there, go upstairs, get a queue, get his yearly extension, get his re-entry permit and do his 90 day reporting and he was walking out of there at 10:30 DONE..
They social distance and they crank people thru there now that the thousands of tourists aren't milling around out there.
he was getting a retirement extension, if you go back after 30 days it sounds like you're getting an extension based on marriage, raising children, or working..
Yes i am married with kids. I will try to book an online appointment.

and had someone show up WITH one of those new appointments booked, who jumped a 30 person queue was taken right in got his extension and was out of there in like 15 minutes :O
I went with an appointment last week, and they did indeed see me at the appointed time (after I grabbed an assistant passing by to show her my appointment slip). I still had to wait 40 minutes for the final sign-off by the supervisor, though, just like in the past. The reentry permit took only seven minutes start to finish, however, with no appointment.

In my opinion, it's always best to get there early, however immigration is almost empty. They even have a new, very neat, phone based queuing/ reservation system too (see
