TLDR : Answer Summary
A cover letter for the soft power visa category (such as Muay Thai) is not mandatory but is highly recommended. It can help strengthen the application by providing context and details about the applicant's background, financial situation, and reasons for seeking the visa. Submitting a cover letter may prevent potential delays by preemptively addressing questions the approving officer might have. While it's unclear where to attach it in the application, it can typically be merged with either proof of funds or supporting Muay Thai documents.

The cover letter is an introduction of yourself as of why you want this visa. Its your best friend if you dont want an interview. Its good to have it when you apply for any visa not just thailand. Remember you are not there only your documents so i would include it . Stay simple show them what they are looking for and you will get the visa 🙏

thanks for detailed answer. On the application form or document upload section I don’t see any option to upload or write cover letter. Should I merge it with my financial statement?

And under what item in the application would you attach such a cover letter? Proof of funds or the Muay Thai documents? Can anyone provide an example of how they did it in a successful way?

Anonymous participant 536 I understand it can be merged into any of the PDFs for either proof of funds or muay thai support docs but it’s not really clear where it fits best (and at the beginning of the pdf or in the end of it etc) so it doesn’t cause issues attaching the cover letter.

It's not a requirement but it is highly recommend to make it easier for the approving officer to understand your story in a nutshell. Some examples are having multiple bank accounts, having a regular income (which mentioning will strengthen the case), any background history that strengthens your link to Thailand, etc.
