Chiang Khong border bounce report.

Took me 2hours from leaving car on parking to going back with 45more days in passport.

The land border is very quiet, live going slow here 😊

Everything went pretty smoothly I had previously 12 COVID extensions on top of 60days tourist visa but no one made any problem got 45days stamp.

Tickets to the bus: 2x25b

I was also asked to pay additional fee 20b on Lao border ;)

Related question. Is Chiang Khong the closest crossing to Chiang Mai? We've only ever been across to Myanmar or over to Vientiane on previous runs, with Myanmar land closed Khong is interesting.

Yep, as a rule land border crossings don't care in the least how many covid extensions you've been on.

You're allowed TWO visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year, so you should be able to get another entry by land before the year end, then the count calendar resets and you get two more next year 🙂

Are we allowed two visa exempt only by land, or is it also true by plane? Thanks

two visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year (Jan 1 to Dec 31) no official limit to them by air, but they'll pull you aside after a few and ask you WTF you're doing living here on free stamps
