Hello everyone, I have some questions about applying for a Non-B-Visa in Vientiane.
A friend of mine (german passport) signed a contract with a thai football club and is now trying to get his Non-B-Visa. The club says they processed all the paperwork with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as with the Thai Football Association.
Question #1:
The football club claims that the documents are “in the system” already so my friend won't have to bring them to the consulate by himself. Is this likely to be this way?
–
The football club also claims that my friend can do the police clearance afterwards. This seems strange as it is listed as a requirement on the website of the thai embassy (4.2.2 Professional sport players).
Question #2a:
You think the club is right and my friend won't have to show a police clearance at the consulate?
And as a follow-up …
Question # 2b:
As my friend stayed in Thailand for the past five months on tourist visa will he be eligible to request a police clearance from the Royal Thai Police Headquarter in Bangkok or will he need to show one from his home country (which most likely would take much longer time …)?
Unfortunately the football club doesn't seem to have much experience with employing foreign players so I try to make sure my friend has everything prepared before going to Vientiane.
Hope someone here can help with advice. Thank you very much :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice about a friend's application for a Non-B Visa at the Thai consulate in Vientiane after signing with a Thai football club. The club claims they have processed the necessary documents, but the user doubts that they have completed the police clearance requirement. They ask if it's true that the friend does not need to present a police clearance, and whether they can obtain it in Thailand or must provide one from Germany. Community comments express skepticism about the clubs claims and suggest alternative approaches for obtaining the visa.
thank you for your quick response. it’s a small family run club from the third division and it seems as they got a bit tired to have to deal with all the bureaucracy - so the management hasn’t been to helpful lately 😕
anyway thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated. I will tell my friend later today and also ask him to join this group so he can provide further information himself.
agree, a phone call to the thai embassy as mentioned for instance shouldn't be so hard to do for the management but unfortunately they won't. instead they suggested to split ways ... so my friend demanded a written cancellation of the contract and is looking for another club now. seems like he already found a new opportunity. fingers crossed that things will work out this time :)
On the website to make an application it is mentioned as:
• A police certificate or an original letter of criminal record clearance issued from the country of applicant’s nationality or residence (valid for not more than three months and should be notarized by notary organs or a diplomatic or consular mission)
How about having someone from the Football Club (his employer) CALL vientiane and ASK them the questions? They're good at answering the phones and I've never had a problem asking them questions (when speaking thai to them).
He'd probably need a police report from the Special Branch here in Bangkok, BUT some consulates also require one from your country too (it's nationality specific).
It sounds very strange that you can apply for a Non Immigrant B visa without any documentation as it is all in the "system". Missing the requirement of a Police record check seems also no problem as you can do later. It is like this football team shows up weeks later, without team uniforms and a tennis racket or golf stick to play the game, all no problem.
