Hi Guys , I have posted this in another group and got great answers but , I just need to clarify the amount of money I need in a Thai bank

I am wanting to change my retirement visa to spouse visa ( I am married to a Thai girl )

My retirement visa ends at the start of May 2020

My question is how much do I need to have in a thai bank to satisfy my retirement visa and my spouse visa coming up

I have heard I need to only show 400,000 baht in a thai bank 2 months before I apply for the spouse visa..Do I need to still have 800,000 baht for the retirement visa

At the moment I have 400,000 in a thai bank , can i go under that amount

I will be using money in a thai bank not monthly income from home

thanks in advance😀

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarity on the amount of money required in a Thai bank for transitioning from a retirement visa to a spouse visa. Current requirements state that to satisfy the retirement visa conditions, the user must maintain at least 400,000 baht in the bank until the next extension application. Additionally, for the spouse visa, they need to show 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account for at least two months prior to applying. Therefore, they should keep the amount above 400,000 baht to avoid complications during the application processes.

I meant to pull all of Bo's questions and answers out because they do not have anything to do with your question.

As people said correctly you need to BOTH meet the requirements for your current extension based on retirement (keeping the minimum 400K baht in the bank until next year) AND you need to meet the requirement for the next extension based on marriage (keeping 400K baht in the bank for 2 months before you apply for your next extension).

I would tell you the same thing I told Bo, GO to your immgiration office well before your current extension will expire, tell them you're going to "switch the reason for your next extension" and get the list of documents you need to do it.

That way you're not waiting until the last minute before your current extension expires and then running around like a head with your chicken cut off tryin to round up the documentation.

Good Luck

I see a trip to the Phuket Immigration office well before you need to switch the reason for your yearly extension from retirement to marriage to make sure of what that office really wants.

Some offices require you register the marriage of a thai married abroad at the local amphur to get the Kor Ror 22 form, but some don't.

You're not gonna really know IF your translations will or won't work until you go ask the office you're gonna get the extension from..

So to be specific
@Kenny *******
, NO, you may not go below the 400k. This because that still is needed for your current extension. If you go below that 400k they almost sure reject your following extension. Good luck !

If you want to apply before .. May 2020 for a new Extension of Stay based on being married to a Thai National you must have at least 2 months prior application date 400.000 Thb on a Thai bank account in your name. Or monthly income of minimum 40.000 Thb, proven by affidavit of Embassy, or by 12 months of foreign deposits into Thai bank or with 3 months tax and sso payments and work permit.

I guess you applied for an Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age at your local Immigration Office and got that stamped in your passport with Extension of Stay permitted up to .. May 2020. As this Extension of Stay is for 1 year, I guess you applied for it after the 1st March 2019 and therefor you need to follow the requirements of 3 months after granted extension the 800.000 Thb in the Thai bank and the rest of the year not less than 400.000 Thb and that year ends on the date .. May 2020.
