TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for a spouse/marriage visa extension 45 days before the expiration date if you are in Bangkok and 30 days if you are in the provinces. Additionally, you can leave and re-enter Thailand while the extension application is being processed, provided that your current visa extension is still valid.

Let me correct some things: not renewal but expiration date of your current extension.

Bangkok - 45 days

Provinces - 30 days

Yes you can leave and reenter no problem as long as you still in the current valid extension

Just please check if reentry service available at Chiangrai or Chiangmai airports: this I don’t know, but you definitely can buy reentry at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport, exit 2 to international flights 24hrs (strictly exit 2, others don’t have reentry service)

🙂 I usually get my multiple reentry at airport, easier than spend extra hours at immigration

Big question to get to an answer is what kind of Visa do you have now and where do you stay?

Chang Rai allows you to apply between 30 days and the last day of you permitted up to date stamped in your passport If application is taken in you get the 30 days under consideration stamp, you need a NEW re-entry permit if you want to leave the country and must be back before the Under Consideration date.

Sorry, I have a Non-O based on marriage to a Thai (not sure if that is the right terminology but I have been on this type for 11 years). I am Australian and live in Chiang Rai. It usually take 4- 6 weeks to process as it seems they send it to Chiang Mai for approval or that's what they have told me before.
