I'm looking to get a non O visa from Australia. I want to open a bank account in preparation for moving there full time next year (spouse of a Thai national or retirement , not sure which as yet)

Should I submit my application through the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra, or through the consulate in Sydney ? Would one option be quicker than the other ?
Answer summary
The user is seeking advice on obtaining a Non-O visa from Australia, particularly about whether to submit the application through the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra or the consulate in Sydney. Responses from the community clarify that the choice of consulate is determined by the applicant's place of residence in Australia, whereby NSW residents must apply through Sydney while others can apply through Canberra. Additionally, there are mentions of banking requirements for the visa application process.

As long as you can prove you have 800,000 thb equivalent to aud in Australian account is all you can do to start your application process. Only NSW residents can apply to Sydney consulate, the rest of Australia use Canberra, 100% online.

You don't get to pick and choose which consulate, the application is processed by the consulate that has jurisdiction over where you reside.

I am from NSW. The Consulate General in Sydney is best. If your visa application and associated documents show NSW, then application will be directed through Sydney for processing

Roger Mcintyre You need to show you are from NSW. Either a NSW licence or rates notice, etc with your name and address.

Sydney is for people in New South Wales, Canberra is for the rest of Australia. It tells you this on the Thai evisa website

If you live in NSW you go through the Sydney Consulate . Everyone else goes to Canberra Embassy. Im pretty sure in the application it tells you anyways

Tony Cabello when I get to that part of the online application , it gives me the option of applying through the Sydney consulate or the embassy.
