Hey all, my Auntie is finishing her job in July and wants to switch to a retirement visa after 20 years in Thailand. Currently on an Immigration B and work permit, is there an easy way to do the switch without leaving the country?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
To switch from an Immigration B visa and work permit to a retirement visa without leaving Thailand, your aunt should first visit the immigration office to obtain a checklist of requirements for the retirement visa. Key steps include gathering necessary documents such as proving financial eligibility (800,000 baht in a Thai bank account for at least two months), obtaining termination paperwork from her employer, and cancelling her current extension and work permit. After cancellation, she can apply for the retirement visa extension for 1900 baht, which can be granted on the same day.

Was she earning at least 65k a month for the last 12 months as proof of this could be used in place of the banked 800k?

, if you mean 65K baht as salary in Thailand for 12 months, no, she cannot use it as proof of financial requirements for an extension based on retirement.

ok, I obviously thought that was the case

Beside the Visa, tell her she should keep the Government Health Insurance, cheap as chips.

She needs to register at the Social Security office in her province and pay the monthly fee

thanks for the tip, how would she do this? I’m asking all of this on her behalf as she’s not a tech person 😂

I don't know, I just know from friends that she can do it. But we are outside of Thai Visa Advice, so you have to find out at another place I guess.

we normally don't allow these "I'm asking for a friend/relative" posts, because you aren't the person getting the new extension but this is the general way she'd do it

She should go to the immigration office soon and get the hand out listing the requirements for a yearly extension based on being over 50 (retirement) so that she knows what documents to get together

She gets the financial requirements together (800K baht in a thai bank account in her name only for 2 months before she applies)

She gets the termination paperwork from her employer, she cancels the work permit, gets the documentation together for the retirement extension, goes to the immigration office, cancels the extension she's on now (she's not on any Non-B VISA, she's been on yearly extensions) and as soon as the extension is cancelled she immediately applies for the new extension based on being over 50 (retirement) for 1900baht. It's granted right then.

She doesn't need to leave the country for changing the reason for an extension from employment to retirement at all.
