Hi, I’m currently over 50 and on the DTV, how do you get the bank account to stick the 800k in and season for 3 months for the retirement visa?
Answer summary
To open a bank account for the 800,000 THB required for a retirement visa in Thailand, you'll need to consider your current visa status. If you are on a DTV (tourist visa), it is not possible to open a Thai bank account. You will need to cancel your DTV, which can only be done through the issuing embassy, and apply for a NON-O visa. Once you have the NON-O visa, you can then set up a bank account in Thailand and deposit the funds, which must be seasoned for three months.

This is the process I followed when I applied in the United Arab Emirates.
the first important step would be -get your DTV cancelled. Only the embassy which issued the DTV, is able to cancel it. Immigration is NOT allowed to cancel any visa
Benito Miori Bangkok Banks policy now ( Bank Manager showed it to me personally) states that they only open accounts for people who have a NON-O X VISA or NON-O A VISA.
Benito Miori Did you open a new Thai Bank Account recently This Year (2026) with DTV E–Visa, Free Visa Exemption Entry Stamp, or Tourist E–Visa, as Single Entry Tourist E–Visa (SETV) or Multiple Entry Tourist E–Visa (METV)??
Benito Miori not on dtv you cant, I would suggest you either opened an account on a different visa or you can expect them to close it in the near future.
You already have the bank account. It's in your home country. But you won't be able to apply for the non-O visa from an embassy until you cancel your DTV, which is easier said than done.
You do not qualify for a Thai bank as you're currently on a tourist visa and they are not available to tourists.
