On the train back to Surat from Kota Bahru with a new non imm B visa. Very easy no agents just did it myself. Glad I avoided Penang this week to be honest. The consulate there was easy to deal with nice people and no hassles. Will post a write up when I'm home.

The basic details are: make it to kota bahru by plane (via KL) or bus or train via Sugnai Kolok border crossing. If crossing by land walk accross stamp out thailand and onto Malaysia. Walk out of immigration to the taxi syand just before the petronas gas station on the left side of road. Take a 50 ringgit 1 hour taxi to kota bahru. I stayed at Grand riverview hotel but there are many. KB has few taxis so if you like your driver get hos card and call him well before you need him.you won't get a taxi on the street most times.go to consulate with all paperwork in order. They have a checklist on the website. Bring extra passport photo page copy and two 4x6 passport photos. Fill out 1 page application and submit all. Ask the nice lady at counter to check that everything is correct. Come back second day at exactly 2pm or earlier. This is if you have a Sugnai Kolok train to catch. It is possible to get the thailandand time 230pm train. Malaysia is 1hr ahead of Thailand time. I made it but just barely. Have your taxi wait for you while you pick up your new passport and then burn rubber back to the border. Cross over and take a motorbike taxi to the train station. Do not walk take the taxi because the train can leave 5 or 10 mins early. I know. I couldn't believe anything is early on Thailand but my train left early. So you can go stay a short time then take a sleeper train same day that you get your visa. If you miss the train go to the bus terminal further down the main road in kolok and take a bus to hat yai. From there you can get anywhere. Good luck

did you get a year-long, multi-entry one or just a 90 day single entry?
