Update for those applying for a 30 day extension from Muathong Thani
I went out to Muathong Thani this morning armed with an Australian embassy letter.
It took me over 2 hours to reach the complex due to heavy rain and bad traffic. It’s quite hard to find if your taxi is following directions on Google Maps. We eventually found it by luck and I’ve included some photos from outside the complex and the main sign on the road to look out for.
First stop saw me ending up in what I thought was the wrong building (the first building with counter A & B ). I was directed to go to counter K which is in the building behind and which you can easily walk to. After checking my online booking number at the reception table I was directed to a counter. The officer then informed me that Counter K is for visa exemptions only (all of the information online says that those on amnesty should head to counter K for extensions which is not the case).
I was then directed to Counter J which is on the third floor of the same building as Counter A& B. There are strangely no signs for counter J. This counter is for those who have obtained visas prior to entering Thailand.
The process when I finally made it to the right counter was a smooth one. Here is what they asked for:
1x copy of passport info page
1x copy of visa and entry stamp into Thailand
1x copy of tm 6 card
1x copy of embassy letter
1x acknowledgement of penalties for overstay visa (the link is provided when you receive confirmation of your online booking)
Don’t bother filling out the acknowledgement of terms and conditions for temporary stay in kingdom of Thailand form as they have a new version so you can just fill it out there.
After providing all of these documents you will be given an ‘under consideration’ stamp which the immigration officer said is “no problem”. Your request formally needs to go to head office for approval but I was informed that everyone with an embassy letter will be approved.
On September 11 I have to go back to immigration when they will give me a 30 day extension dated from September 27. So you don’t have to wait until closer to the September 26 date. You will get the full month dated from after the end of this grace period regardless of when you go.
It seems that September 11th is the date that applications need to be made by. I’ve read a lot of people talking about this in various groups and everyone I saw up at counter J was directed to come back on September 11 to receive their extensions.
Hope that this helps anyone who is worried about the process. Relieved it’s over for now! Good luck!
