In Aug. I am planning move to Ratchaburi. I am an 50 and retired. I am going on a tourist visa and want to change it to a retirement visa. I would like to know if anyone has been to the Ratchaburi immigration office and how difficult is it to change the visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of converting a tourist visa to a retirement visa in Ratchaburi is generally straightforward if you meet the financial requirements and have access to necessary documentation. Several users shared their experiences indicating that obtaining information from the local immigration office is essential, and it's recommended to fulfill financial prerequisites before making the change. Additionally, some suggested applying for a long-stay Non-Immigrant Type O-A visa from a Thai consulate in your home country prior to arrival to avoid complications.

I would suggest IF you're not here yet that you get the year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you come here.

Especially given the huge changes to the financial requirements INSIDE the country.

I did it in Nakhon Ratchasima a few years ago. I remember going to immigration and asking how to do it. At the time the money had not been in the bank for long enough so I extended my permission to stay for 1900 THB and returned a month later when the financial requirements were satisfied. No problem.

For conversion from Visa Exempt Entry or Tourist Visa to Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age there is no seasoned bank money requirement. You can make a deposit from abroad today and as soon as it is in your bank account you can apply.

If you have access to a copy machine and have the financial requirements in order it is very easy. But you have to ask if the Immigration Office in Ratchaburi if the can and allowed to convert a Tourist Visa into the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age.
